Hello Bryce Good news! I've managed to retest on Lucid.
I no longer get distorted tty terminals when resuming from hibernate. I can now get a normal shutdown with the Ubuntu logo. No more NMI messages or confusion. So I can confirm that the problems do not occur in Lucid. Thank you very much for your help!
