Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
The PS2 keyboard and mouse randomly lock-up (and don't come back) but the OS continues to run. This can occur anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours. I can not identify any event that triggers this. There is no error in the system logs or the .xsession-errors files. When the lock happens programs on the screen continue to update (I have tried glx gears and it continues to spin and System Monitor updates). I can plug in a USB mouse and that mouse works. I can SSH into the machine. If I issue the commands "rmmod psmouse; modprobe posmouse" the ps2 keyboad and mouse will start working again (for a while). This happens when using Using Ubuntu 10.10-beta-AMD64 and 10.04-AMD64 The 10.04 version only had a few packages added and the the 10.10 version is a clean install with the exception of installing the NVidia driver. The system is a i7-870, Asus P7P55D-E Pro Motherboard, with a EVGA GTS250 1GB video card I have installed Debian 5.05 and it is stable (so it's not the hardware) but the version of kernel used in that distro does not seem to support my audio card. There are a number of post about keyboard and mouse lock-ups on P7P55D motherboard on Ubuntu forums but no solutions yet.
