MP Odonga Otto |
By Cyprian Musoke
In yet another surprise move, Aruu
County MP Odonga Otto has resigned all his portfolios in the Forum for
Democratic Change (FDC).
In his resignation letter addressed to
the party president, Col. Kizza Besigye and copied to the Leader of the
Opposition, Ogenga Latigo and the partys national chairman, Sulaiman
Kiggundu, Otto said he would serve the party in my other capacities.
Mr. President, as you may well be aware, I have been holding the
portfolios of National Youth Coordinator FDC, Chairman Transitional
National Youth Council FDC and Secretary for Youth affairs FDC.
I
actively participated and launched the FDC youth league countrywide,
mobilised youth for your return from South Africa and at the time of your
arrest.
I equally mobilised the youth during the court hearings
and led the youth into national elections 2006.
I write to inform
you of my well considered position to resign and seek leave of all
responsibilities attached to the above- mentioned portfolios.
I
appreciate the trust you and the party bestowed upon me and I pay tribute
to all the youth I worked with during these hard times. I will serve the
party in my other capacities, Otto (above) said.
Opposition Chief
Whip Kassiano Wadri said it was unfortunate that Otto had abdicated from
such important portfolios.
I called him to my office after I had
received the letter, and together with a colleague told him he should have
told us who would be able to give him more mature advice.
I
believe he has not resigned from the party, but the responsibilities, and
we will still continue to talk to him because we think he has abdicated
such big responsibilities, he said.
Latigo said he had not yet
seen the letter, but said he believed it was Ottos right to
resign. |
