Actually, Ray, you are the one who's gone global on us here. Park maintenance is a specific, empirically verifiable problem: the City doesn't budget enough money to do enough of it. It won't cut the grass more than maybe three times a season; it can't afford to pick up the trash more than half as often as it needs to. The moment we cease raising the money that funds extended maintenance, the park will start to deteriorate at once. That very same week. It's that simple.
The vision involved is not the vision of the anointed. It is the vision of the person who has the sense to see that if a trashcan is overflowing after three days but it's not scheduled to be emptied for four more days, then the area around the trashcan is facing a general crisis. It becomes a less pleasant place to play volleyball in, for example. Most people have this much sense -- you can too! -- and some people want to do something about it. Next year, you can join them. Tickets are sixty bucks for you (you get a discount).
