Dear members of the Spruce Hill Civic Association,

As you may have heard, Penn is proposing to build a
10-story hotel at the corner of 40th and Pine. This
proposal was reported in the October 10 issue of the
UC Review, and a week later letters opposing the
proposal were published. On October 23, the
Philadelphia Historic Commission's
Architectural Committee met and rejected Penn's
proposal
Agreeing with concerns expressed by several neighbors
and various written letters; the proposed building was
incompatible in size, scale, and character with both
the nearby neighborhood and
the historical mansion. The proceedings were recorded
by the PHC and minutes are created.

Neighbors, at this meeting, an architect for the Penn
hotel testified that the Spruce Hill Civic
Association’s zoning committee had held “two open and
public forums” about this hotel plan.

I was surprised to hear about these two open public
forums, and so are other neighbors concerned about
this project. When did these forums take place? Who
attended? How and when were they publicized?

Prior to these forums, had any of you heard about the
proposed hotel? When was it reported in your
newsletter?

Thanks for sharing any information about this. You may
contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Sincerely,
Glenn Moyer
