I've got exactly the same problem, but I'm not using any IMAP directories, just POP mailboxes (a lot,around 8).
But apart from that, the problem seems to be very similar : the memory used by evolution grows with time without limit, ending around 3.5 Go when all my RAM and swap is used and the application is killed by the systems. I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 AMD64, and everything is up to date (with the default repositories).
