Just an update.

This problem I was having a few weeks back was more than likely related
to the fact that my hard drive was crapping out on me.

Last week, my BIOS started giving me a warning to back up my data ASAP,
as my primary hard drive was starting to throw up red flags that it was
operating outside of specifications. (See S.M.A.R.T. --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.)

Anywho, since installing a new hard drive and reinstalling Intrepid, I
haven't had anymore problems with these error messages.

So unless somebody else is having a similar problem, we can probably
scratch this "bug".
