Public bug reported: Binary package hint: trn4
I'm running trn4 under Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). * trn reports its version (typed 'v') as: Trn version: 4.0-test76 (Apr 2, 2001). * synaptic reports the installed version as: 4.0-test76-15 * apt-cache policy trn4 reports: trn4: Installed: 4.0-test76-15 Candidate: 4.0-test76-15 Version table: *** 4.0-test76-15 0 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/multiverse Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status The trn manpage in the distribution describes how trn, after checking for new newsgroups etc, enters the newsgroup selection level: | 5. Trn goes into the top prompt level -- the | newsgroup-selection level. | | Newsgroup Selection Level | | In this section the words "next" and "previous" refer to the | ordering of the newsgroups in your .newsrc file. On the | newsgroup-selection level, the prompt looks like this: | | ====== 17 unread articles in talk.blurfl -- read now? [ynq] This is wrong - by default, trn4 comes up with a 'visual' selector for newsgroups. Users can quit this visual selector and return to the rn-style read-this-newsgroup-now prompt by hitting 'Q'. A google search revealed a defunct but cached page (possibly from the trn4 source - the defunct URL ended with "trn-4.0-test76/HelpFiles/changelog") with the explanation: | Changes from trn 3.6 to trn 4.0: | | o Added a newsgroup selector to make choosing news groups easier | (use the ++ option to turn it off). The command-line '++' option works (it starts trn with the old-skool newsgroup selector) but it isn't mentioned anywhere in the trn manpage. Correcting the manpage would save others from a similar wild goose chase.
