scooteroz I also have been trying to install Slimserver 6.3.1 (from the .rpm) & like you I find slimserver.conf is missing all detail. This causes error on starting slimserver. So yes you do need slimserver.conf.
Please could some kind person either post, mail or PM me a copy of their slimserver.conf.
