If you installed SqueezeCenter from the .deb (package) install, then it
should have created a user and group for squeezecenter, if I'm not
mistaken.  I work in command-line world when it comes to Linux, so I
don't know if the Users and Groups view in Ubuntu might hide anything.

Brute force trick would be to open an xterm, cd to your  music folder
and type:
sudo chmod -R a+rwX *

If that makes the files visible to SqueezeCenter, then permissions are
the issue, and you can either leave it wide open from the above
command, or work out the right way to limit it for your needs.
