Thanks for looking into this.

I'm pretty sure I followed all your directions, but still no sound.

I'm using a 3B+ and pCP7.

I did notice this in [INFO] dmesg if this gives you a clue as to what I
did wrong.  Did I screw up mmcblk0p1 while editing config.txt?
