If your user didn't need a password, remove the -p Post the response here. 3)From the same command line, try typing : mysqladmin -p extended-status This should give a whole list of details about the running mysql server (if indeed it is running). Again, the -p parameter is only necessary if the user connecting to the mysql server requires a password to do so. If not, you don't need the -p parameter.
