Which project.xml are you referring to? When say 
Try running "maven cruisecontrol", and will it override my exisiting
confiq.xml file in crusie control?

Try running "maven cruisecontrol" on your project.xml. That should give
you
a decent config.xml that you can use as a base.

You'll find info on the <maven /> tag in the cruise control
documentation.
I've only tried it with the most recent version of cruise control.
