Correct. And if you sent the files to another user - even if you
remembered to send both - then the arrangement would work only if the
target file ended up in an identical place in the other user's file
structure. That would be very unlikely (unless you carefully arranged
it to be so).

Thanks for confirming that Brian. So, it would appear that there is no
real workaround for OOo Writer? That's too bad, but still not good
enough reason to use MS Word (which wouldn't work on my Debian machine
anyway), because that is quite a decent option to embed a document into
another document that then, unless it is deleted, becomes a repository
to keep associated documents with the parent regardless of whether the
originals are deleted or not.
Do you know whether there is any broader user demand for that kind of
functionality that might inspire the OOo developers to consider
including something like that?
