Also, to answer the last question about trying the pipeline with gst-launch,
I've tried this and it works fine:
gst-launch filesrc location=/home/esalazar/Desktop/Rendezvous.avi ! decodebin !
ffmpegcolorspace ! xvimagesink
Which should be identical to what I'm doing.
