I'm getting some weird behavior from a couple of Quantum SCSI drives I purchased in the past few months. They're intended foe a couple of compact Macs that I have, but I can't get them formatted. They spin up, but report "<no disc>" in Disk Utility and cannot be formatted. Norton reports that the drive is not HFS.
