As far as reading Bookshare and BARD books from the watch, the answer is no. The only thing you can do is stop and start a BARD book from your watch, but the audio will still either come from your phone or bluetooth headset. Your watch has something called a now playing screen. From this screen, you can control the last audio that was played on your phone no matter what app it came from.
Second, as far as text messages, yes, you can send and receive messages on your watch. But any message you send must be dictated since the watch screen is to small for a keyboard.
