Thanks, Ronni. I'll give that a try. I was previously saving them to desktop as a Quicktime movie, importing to iTunes then creating iPod version.

Hi Andrew,

Once you install the plugin, http://perian.org/

1. Open the avi file in Quicktime Pro.
2. Click File > Export
3. Select “Movie to iPod” from the export pull down Menu.
4. Click Save. & save it to your Desktop.

Then double click the converted .m4v and iTunes will open and import the video into Movies. If you have your iPod setup to sync your movies, next time you connect your iPod the .m4v video will be added to your iPod.

Cheers,
Ronni

Does that method make them appear in iTunes movie section and are they converted or does that still have to be done by iTunes?

Hi all,

I recently downloaded some movie files from Vuze (a new Azureus), but they won't drag into my itunes. I can play them easily with Quicktime, but want to play them with itunes so they can be put on an ipod. They are in the .avi format, maybe this is the reason why they won't import into itunes?!

Do I have to convert the file type to something else?

Hello Denise,

To play .avi files on an iPod they need to be converted to .m4v

You can convert them using Quicktime Pro.

To do that, you can simply open and then export within QuickTime if you have the perian plug-in installed.

Once you install the Perian 1.1.3 plugin, <http://perian.org/> simply play the .avi file, hit stop and then go to File > Export > then select "Movie to iPod" from the export pull down menu.

Cheers,
Ronni
