In "Keeper of the Flame" Andy asked why the fire brigade wasn't called to help put out the barn fire. I have always wondered why when the governor came to Mayberry and they had a parade why they didn't have a fire truck lead the parade. Every small town parade that I have seen, and I have seen a lot, have had a fire truck at the front of the parade.
