The "standard" builds of Qt5 do use Pulse Audio as an intermediary to lower level audio services on Linux, I believe this is because it is assume that desktop system requires an audio server so that audio device sharing is seamless. I believe that until recently (Qt 5.4) building Qt on a system that has Pulse Audio installed disables the direct ALSA support (in error).
It is possible to build Qt without pulse audio support. If alsa-lib and gstreamer are installed, the Qt configuration should detect them and build in ALSA support. > > The pulseaudio-module-jack package is installed, then in the startup > script... > > ... > jack_connect SDR_RX:ol "PulseAudio JACK Source:front-left" > jack_connect SDR_RX:or "PulseAudio JACK Source:front-right" > ... > jack_connect "PulseAudio JACK Sink:front-left" SDR_TX:il > jack_connect "PulseAudio JACK Sink:front-right" SDR_TX:ir > ... > > In wsjt-x input is set to jack_in, output is set to jack_out. > > This works well enough but I would prefer not to use pulseaudio. > > Do I need a more recent version of Qt? > > http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19985490/is-audio-playback-via-alsa-supported-in-qt5 That link is explaining the same as I am above. > > 73 > > Nick G3VNC 73 Bill G4WJS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dive into the World of Parallel Programming The Go Parallel Website, sponsored by Intel and developed in partnership with Slashdot Media, is your hub for all things parallel software development, from weekly thought leadership blogs to news, videos, case studies, tutorials and more.
