Joe: Neither am I looking for confrontation. But that's what I've gotten from a small vocal minority of this list: confrontation, hatred and bullying.
When I approached you privately, off-list, about the bullying and hatred: you told me to "ignore it". I can attach a copy of your response to my plea for help for reference if you'd like. So if following your advice, I can ignore confrontation, hatred and bullying, I believe you can ignore something that you consider to be only "off topic". I would advise that you yourself set precedent. Almost two years ago, on May 18, 2019, I announced a "New app for Linux users: wsjtx_to_n3fjp". I posted an announcement about another helper application/script/etc. which I created that monitors the older UDP communications and sends WSJT-X ADIF logs to N3FJP. That announcement I posted almost two years ago went unaddressed by you, so presumably it was acceptable. And by doing so (or rather by not doing so), you established a precedent. In addition, I don't believe that your earlier comparison of a companion python application/script/etc. to a full-fledged application to JTDX is equitable. This is a one-off project to fill in what I consider to be a "hole" in the design of WSJT-X's logging capability. We can argue all day about that -- you and Bill are not going to convince me your design meets my needs, and I'm not going to convince you of my solution. I would suggest we both continue to "live and let live". That said, my program/script/etc. does not dictate the full ecosystem of a fully featured application like JTDX. So if "wsjtx_to_n3fjp" can be announced without incident, I would presume that there is no issue to announce "wsjtx_update_log.py" Third parties who do not contribute code to WSJT-X project just need to remain civil. I think there is the "teaching opportunity", rather than "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". 73, -- Dave Slotter, W3DJS <https://www.qrz.com/db/W3DJS> On Mon, Mar 8, 2021 at 5:18 PM Joe Taylor <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Dave, > > I was not looking for confrontation, at all.
