Yes, This works absolutely fine.I also test a way to achieve offline HA. Meaning that if a VM were to go down or a physical machine were to go down. Provision a VM with exact same disk on another physical server and you get the last working state of the image. So from a HA perspective, the easiest way would be to have volumes or disks visible on multiple physical servers and as soon as a physical server is lost, start up the VM on another node rather then manually provision the VM.
