MEDIA STATEMENT: LAWRENCE PHOKANOKA DISTRICT t
The Lawrence Phokanoka District Executive Committee met to prepare for the
District Council. The meeting appreciated the political landscape and developed
a programme of action centred on political education in honour of the late
General Secretary, Cde Chris Hani, and reconfiguration of branches to Voting
District Based branches.
The District impressed and anonymously agreed that corruption and infighting
can impede effective service delivery. Members of the SACP are called to lead a
fight against corruption and factional tendencies from the front. Whereas we
support entrepreneurship as a tactical means for the poor to make a living,
this should not be misconstrued to prepare a new crop of black capitalists.
The DEC undertook to honour the late General Secretary of the SACP, Cde Chris
Hani, by political education and reconfiguration of branches into Voting
District-based branches concomitantly, and without any contradiction.
Fully understanding the capitalist character of the state, we view the current
debate of the life style as a means to raise sharp question of ideological
shift – a shift to the left. This question is long overdue considering
challenges such as climate change, the poor and rich in SA living extremely far
from each other in material terms, and education and health being prioritized
commodities.
The reality is that the economic policy of the republic created individual
beneficiaries who should never be fought. The beneficiaries of the country’s
economic policy should be taught to fight temptation of greed and accumulation.
They should assist to make certain that not only does one benefit but the poor
and workers. The better approach would be to crush the system which replicates
apartheid colonial economy.
We call on all cadres to continue working side by side with ANC and COSATU, and
contribute to their welfare. The shaming of our detractors can be achieved by
our determination and commitment to NDR and the construction of a socialist
state. In honour of Cde Chris Hani, let us unite to serve the masses as per the
five pillars of our 2009 Election manifesto.
