I think I found it - looking through assp.cfg to find settings with encrypted values I found "exportDBDir". The value shown in assp.cfg is not the value shown in the GUI - but the value in the GUI is indeed the strange folder that was being created.

At some point soon after ASSP starts a folder is created in the main assp folder. It's named "dbe254..." looks like it's over 60 characters long. It's empty - I never see anything in it. I can remove the folder but it's always re-created. What is this?
