In fact, no relation with XFree/Xft. I solved my problem by :
1 - removing the line /usr/local/X11R6/bin from /etc/ld.so.conf
2 - removing /etc/ld.so.cache
3 - running ldconfig

Now everything is back. And thanks to le.berred to remind me 'ldd' and
'ldconfig'!

PS : I have the line

libmozjs.so => not found

when I 'ldd /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/mozilla-bin' (same for netscape), but
mozilla works fine. So It may not be your only problem.

Please, don't mix everything.. Your particular problem is probably caused by a
buggy installatiion of XFree/Xft or something similar..

running Mozilla 1.3.1 with flash plugin and java plugin. After the
update, I cannot launch mozilla. I have no error when I run it from the
command line. The version of mozilla installed is: Mozilla 1.4,
Copyright (c) 2003 mozilla.org, build 2003063000 I moved my .mozilla
directory but it did not solve the problem.
