I do understand that the proposed fix is inadequate. You'd need to not include nobarrier on the esp partition.
However, the performance of vmdebootstrap is really fairly bad compared to other image creation solutions I've used in the past, and it does significantly impact the test/development cycle. If you don't want to develop a patch fine, but perhaps help or no tags would be more appropriate than wontfix.
