Thanks for the link. I had the same thought, because the installer does 
ask for the WiFi firmware. So, I did try one non-free image as one of 
the several Debian variations listed below. The one I used was...

debian-live-10.3.0-amd64-gnome+nonfree.iso

Is that what you had in mind?
