A veces el problema no esta donde uno pensaría que podría estar.
La resoluciones que queres configurar tienen un Aspect Ratio que me hace
suponer que es WideScreen.
Si esto es correcto, entonces deberías fijarte si tu placa de vídeo soporta
esas resoluciones.
También es posible que tu placa de vídeo soporte esas resoluciones, pero que no
se lo informe a Xorg.
En ese caso, tenes que deshabilitar el reconocimiento automático mediante la opción "NoUseBios"
en la sección Device de tu tarjeta de vídeo. Siempre y cuando, esta opción este disponible para tu
tarjeta de vídeo. Esta opción fue comentada por Miguel Da Silva <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> en el hilo
"Resolución widescreen (1280x720) en Lenny".

Para ayudarte mas necesitaríamos saber cual es tu tarjeta de vídeo. El comando
lspci puede ayudarte.
Por otro lado DPMS es la sigla de Display Power Management Signaling, que es la función
que coloca el monitor en estado "stand by" después de un tiempo, y esta
relacionado con el ahorro de energía. Más info sobre las configuraciónes de DPMS en man
xorg.conf (se puede leer desde la ayuda de Gnome, y supongo que también desde la de KDE).
