From a distribution standpoint, the dependency on GLib is not a problem 
(Neal Gompa's point about the event loop might be relevant, but I guess that 
in the case of GTK applications such as Anaconda, using the GLib event loop 
is actually desirable), but having yet another library dragged onto all 
images as a dependency of the installer is not so nice (even if it is only a 
wrapper around GLib/GIO code doing the actual work).
