ALE-GPR (Geo Position Report) uses the ALE "Instant Message"
feature called AMD. You can connect your GPS directly to the
computer, and PCALE will auto-report your position to anyone
who is part of the open "GPR" net.

The first real-world use of ALE-GPR was during the Katrina
disaster. ALE operators tracked Alan KM4BA and received his ALE-GPR
and Status Reports while he was HF mobile in Mississippi and Alabama
setting up emergency communications systems. Alan was using an
earlier beta version of PCALE, running mobile on a laptop with an
FT-897 in his truck. You can see some of those real-time reports,
which were posted on HFLINK during the Katrina response effort:

PCALE ALE-GPR
If you don't have a GPS connected, you can enter your GPS
latitude/longitude position manually, since ALE-GPR uses
human-readable "plain language" format. You may also include a
short text message with the GPR.

In the beta 1.062G version of PCALE, you have the choice to either
send the GPR Report or send Soundings at the Sounding Period selected
in the options panel.

HARDWARE ALE-GPR
Operators of hardware embedded-ALE transceivers may send and
receive ALE-GPR.
To receive ALE GPR: Set up a Net called GPR that includes
yourself and at least 2 other stations you would like to
receive GPRs from.
To send ALE GPR:
Send a TWS (This Was) netcall to GPR, that includes an AMD
with the proper format ALE-GPR as the text of the AMD; or
send a TWS individual call to GPR address that includes the
proper format ALE-GPR as the text of the AMD.

Many thanks to Charles G4GUO, for adding the ALE-GPR system into PCALE.

Regards,
Bonnie Crystal KQ6XA
