Well close. It gets installed under /usr which is generally used by package managers. Parts of gnucash will end up in different subdirectories of /usr, like /usr/bin/gnucash for the program itself, /usr/lib for shared libraries, / usr/lib/gnucash/ for libraries intended to be used by gnucash internally only, /usr/share/gnucash/ for various data files and so on.
