Jeff,

As the moderator for the TYJP-L list, I am very concerned about the change in formatting from HTML to plain text. For whatever reason, the Mail Archive is not presenting the text format of our newsletters correctly. Specifically, the end of line characters are not being generated properly here. I have compared your copy versus another "copy" (http://rtpnet.org/pipermail/tyjp-l/2006/000118.html) of our latest newsletter; you can see things are not quite correct here. I have also reviewed the content of the text only portion of the eMail I sent out, and it looks correct, too.

I realize there are reasons for having the messages in text format as the default, but is there a way to tell the Mail Archive that for a given archive, we want HTML? In other words, is there a keyword or something the various moderators can use to force Mail Archive to use the HTML instead of the default text? Some of us spend a lot of time trying to ensure our HTML/EML is correct before we send it out.

As always, thank you so very much for your service and assistance!

Michael Cohen

Hi all,

I've just installed the four hundred and sixteenth revision to
The Mail Archive core software. That alone is kind of amazing.
Anyway, this update may affect you if your list has HTML
formatted messages.

In some but not all cases, HTML mail messages are also shipped
with a plaintext version of the same message. This is for backwards
compatibility with various mail user agents, and is codified
with the miltipart/alternative mimetype.

As of 5 minutes ago, I've instructed The Mail Archive to always
prefer the plaintext version of a message whenever it has a
choice. That may make some list archives a little less colorful
or font-a-riffic. On the upside, this should reduce some problems
when the HTML message is grievously corrupt. In particular,
some YahooGroups lists recently started having very serious
problems with sending invalid HTML messages - leading to
blank archive pages.

Anyway, that's what's going on and as always yell if there are
any questions, concerns or problems.

Cheers,
Jeff
