Once IPL'ed we use both SDSF and SMCS consoles to actually monitor the systems. > John, Lets be clear about something -- z/OS developers don't get to do whatever they feel like -- they develop what the business side of the house tells us that our customers want. And the business side of the house finds out what customers want (and are willing to pay for) from requirements, coming either through requests from individual customers or from organizations like SHARE or customer councils such as the zBLC. The fact of the matter is that there has been to my knowledge no requirement submitted requesting that we support the 3270 interface to the HMC. I'd encourage you and others to submit such a requirement. You should also consider that any such requirement will be pitted against other high-priority work, such as making 64-bit usable. So give us a break -- we took enough of a look at the 3270 interface to the HMC a couple of years ago (when zVM first did their support) that we have an idea how to do it -- it'll cost roughly what the SMCS support cost -- but its not going to get done unless you all ask for it and rank it higher than other things that you want.
