Good. You can start work on it. Please, use a git repository that we can checkout from for it since it'll be a bunch of work. Besides, I'd suggest you to look at stgit for managing your patches since it'll make your life fair easily then using plain git to manage that kinda of branch. That would allow you to send patches for review and change them again without much hassle. So your patches will be resent again for review and so on until we get at merging quality of work.
