AOO Writer - Line Spacing icons
Dear all, On my copy of AOO Writer the icons for 1.0 and 1.5 line spacing seem to be transposed. I have 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 line spacing in my toolbar, and the gap for 1.5 (on the icon) is smaller than the gap for the 1.0 line spacing (on the icon). Line spacing works as otherwise intended, except the icons seem to be incorrect. styles, formula, modify, standard, ok - breaks style of formula
dear devs, I have also found that by modifying the style for formula, and pressing the standard selection on bottom right breaks the style. the new formula are all placed at the top left of the page, and it is impossible to revert to the previous setting (you cannot set to vertical center - character again). not sure what other standard choices cause this same issue. to test on your system. write formula, press f11, modify the formula style, press standard, press okay. will be broken. attempt to reset, press f11, modify formula style, reset. does nothing. dear devs, found this one for writer formula. hat i clips hat, same for many of the other options such as tilde, circle, breve, check, grave, acute. clipped for export to pdf. fix is to put formula into matrix{}. with matrix{bold hat i} even through looks clipped in document is fine as pdf. Calc Page Preview Broken by Column
Dear Friends, I have found a strange bug within a Calc document. I added column A, to a working document, and this broke the page preview. To fix, delete column A, and it should fix the issue. We ran into slow user profile creation in Windows 7 a few years ago. We found a variety of causes of slowdown on login/profile creation that we attempted to address, including: 1. Spinning hard drives were just slower, period, than SSDs. We replaced the vast majority of HDDs on the PAWS. 2. The cloning process from a master clone could affect the speed of the clone. We changed software as a result. 3. Symantec Endpoint Protection slows file access. It also would try to scan the entire HD and all user profiles constantly, and try to send millions of files to Symantec for analysis, and not delete them. 4. Windows Search was enabled and constantly indexing user profiles. We removed it from the PAWS. 5. Windows startup sound actually added time in a login because it would wait until the audio service was ready. 6. Printer drivers per-user would have to download 70MB. A couple of years ago, the campus as a whole switched to PaperCut for managing print jobs.[2] This maintains separate print queues for each student, so that when they swipe their student card at the print release station, they see only their own print jobs. Convenient! At least compared to Pharos, the old system. Unfortunately, there's a nasty side-effect, which is that it takes a loong time to log into the lab computers. Generally 5-6 minutes, sometimes as much as 10. What's happening is: 1) A student logs in with their Active Directory credentials 2) The computer checks for a user profile and doesn't find one 3) The computer creates a new windows profile for the student (slooow!) 4) When they log off, Deep Freeze wipes out the profile. The fact that the computer has to download, install, and configure the PaperCut print drivers makes Step 3 even slower. They're per-user. They're baked into the user profile, so they get created fresh every time and wiped out again afterwards. As a recent comment on Yik-Yak put it: Patience is waiting for the library computers to log you on. We're currently on Windows 8 (yuck), but the problem occurred with 7 as well. We've talked about removing Deep Freeze and simply placing the computers on restricted accounts with no permissions to install software, etc. That would *partially* address it, because profiles would no longer be wiped out. As long as students went to the same computer over and over, they'd only be faced with a long logon the first time. But, of course, it's a lab and there's no guarantee you can get the same computer all the time, so that's a poor solution at best. Hello support, I've got a feed that sends a new IM every few minutes which means that every few minutes I get a new message notification. Since I perpetually have a new message I end up ignoring the new message alert and that makes it so I miss other people's new messages. Is there a way that I can set a particular buddy to ignore so that I don't get any notifications when they type to me but that I still get their IMs? The collaborative efforts of the folks at NCSA and at ANL are the only reason that we've been able to participate in AccessGrid. I've restarted the UMTP server now. You're right that it's not supported, but I'd like to keep it up. Thanks for letting us know that it had gone down. Thanks, Tom. The server is up again. There are a couple of reasons that I like using the AGConnector. First, it seems (to me) to provide better connectivity than when I'm attempting a unicast connection; I seem to get a more complete representation of those in a venue. When using unicast, I notice more 'one way' issues. We almost always use multicast, but when working from offices or endpoints that don't have multicast capability, it seems a better solution than the unicast bridges. The second thing that I like about AGconnector is that it, vic, and VP play well together, whereas with a unicast connection, VP is not an option for me if I'll also need vic. Thanks again. --dean

I'd used AGConnector pretty successfully for a couple of weeks but beginning last week some time it ceased functioning. The error is 'failed to connect to server; use the other server'. The server that it initially points at is 'watts.mcs.anl.gov'. I know that it's not yet a supported product, but would it be possible to kick that server, or possible point me at an alternate server? [AG-TECH] AGTK2.3 for MacOS X
Hello - I've download/installed the AGTK for MacOS X and it seems to work pretty well. I had some troubles importing my certificate initially, but managed to get past that. There are apparently none of the mbone tools (vic and rat) distributed with the tookit, or at least I haven't been able to locate them yet. And I haven't managed to find a binary on the net for either that's been ported to MacOS. Does anyone on the list have either a pointer to binaries for vic rat or information about getting them running under MacOS X? Thanks. --dean

If One Of Us Should Fall is a wonderful version, brimming with emotion, though not as hot as the one the other night in Eugene IMO. Built for Zeal is by far the best version I've heard, though that's not saying a whole lot as I never really jumped on this song so much. Driving Backwards is great, and Marc shreds. Ashland must be from NYE as there are horns, though it fades out after 1:19 before the lyrics. I'm just sinking my teeth into this disc, so I can't give a very critical review at this point, but I'm sure we'll get one from Sam or someone else soon enough. Patience. Well, I never post reviews, I guess because everyone else always does such a fine job, and well, you know, what good is my slanty opinion...Anyway, here I am on Slip tour, doing the coast, so I might as well speak up for a moment before again retreating into lurk for the next 5-7 years. All I want to say is that Reed rocked! I've been seeing these guys for yada-yada and this was one of my all-time favorites. I don't think it was just the Pabst talking, although moments after rolling in I found myself shotgunning cans on the quad like I was Frank the Tank or something. I'm not an old guy, but I'm no spring blue jay, and the Reed folk were well-prepared to party keg-style right there in the open. Heady school for sure. So, my juices were brimming out and it's show time.. Soft Machine started out and man, did you east coasters hear it? The beauty of it knows no physics or geography. This is my favorite of the newer songs, and I love that it's still in the works. How hard is that slide guitar/voice thing? Jeez. I love it. At that point, I began jumping up and down and didn't stop until the bitter end, which was Dogs on Bikes. A very extended Dogs, too. It was time to stop playing (as if such a time really exists) but Brad was not having it. He had led the boys out somewherefrom whichsome musical TLC was required to navigate home gently. He came prepared. There was all sorts of goodness n the middle there, some of my favorites: that new gem Children of December, Built to Spill's Else, Yellow Medicine, a S-I-C-K Fugi, Before You Were Born, Sandman, forget what else, if anything. I'm telling ya, this show, for those who love the raw ethereal rock that The Slip is capable of, is a keeper. My tape got messed up, and I am so bummed. [rtl] problems with mmap and read/write on /proc
Though somewhat off-topic, I am trying to port our simulation/control/data_acq system to RTLinux. Key to the success of this endeavor, is the capability of having one process able to read/write into the process space of another. In the example provided I can both mmap() and read()/write() /proc on our current platform. On Linux 2.4.1 (RH7.1) however, neither worked. A couple of years ago, when I first tried this with RH5.2 (I don't remember the Linux version) I remember seeing a similar (if not identical) disclaimer to what's in the current proc(5) manpage. The last sentence gave me hope the capability I was seeking was to be implemented imminently. memThis is not the same as the mem (1:1) device, despite the fact that it has the same device numbers. The /dev/mem device is the physical memory before any address translation is done, but the mem file here is the memory of the process that accesses it. This cannot be mmap(2)'ed currently, and will not be until a general mmap(2) is added to the kernel. (This might have happened by the time you read this.) Either Linux can in some form support this and I'm doing something wrong (and the documentation is out-of-date); or it is currently not yet possible through /proc. Isn't it slowly getting time that the RTL mailing list admins take responsibility and disable attachments ? - Erwin I read my mail on a Unix system and luckily and have not been infected by viruses targeting the windoz environment. There are many levels of globallness (I may patent that word!). Right now, there does not appear to be any way to define a variable so that it is global to the module, but not global to the entire kernel. To make things even more difficult, it would be nice there were some mechanism to allow making variables global to a module and the kernel, but guaranteed (within reason) unique at the kernel level. Victor /Steve -- Thanks for taking the time to reply to my email. I would like to elaborate on Steve's clarifications... Data Access Issues: Our user's requirements are simple: they want read/write access to any local or global static parameter in any simulation, at any time; without having to define up-front what parameters they wish to interface with, and without the target process (user's simulation) having any notion of the fact that access to its data space is being made externally. The folks writing the simulation or control s/w like this because they can focus on their task at hand, without having to be concerned about "how to display or interface with the data", and "how to move data in/out of various VME interfaces." It's all done for them, outside of their application. Namespace Issues: We receive simulations and control code from many different groups. These simulations can be hand coded Fortran, Fortran generated by picture compilers, or hand coded C. It is a practical impossibility to enforce any sort of parameter naming conventions to prevent name collisions -- every group has their own naming standards. As Steve had noted, a very real example is where we have real-time engine model executable "engine", and make and run two copies of "engine" concurrently. cp engine left_engine cp engine right_engine In each engine simulation, there is a parameter p2 (inlet pressure). We need (and currently have on a Concurrent platform) a mechanism whereby we specifically address left_engine::p2 or right_engine::p2 . Each of these engine models would have a shared memory area defined with an airframe model and share, for example, a parameter called "alt". Therefore we have three valid ways to reference what turns out to be a single data object -- left_engine::alt, right_engine::alt, or airframe::alt. The user interface s/w must recognize that "alt" is one object, and not three. I need a technique to "walk the executables" and extract user defined parameters and parameter attributes, so I can present to the user interface on startup, and concatenated, sorted-by-name symboltable of all the parameters in all of the simulations to be run. Having a sorted list makes things like parameter name completion and resolving parameter unqiueness (are multiple parameters of the same name one or more objects) easier. Thank you for the pointer to objdump -- with enough options enabled, it appears we might be able to parse this to generate a symboltable with all the info we need. -- Dean W. This would also be helpful for people who want to be able to run multiple copies of the same RT task. At the recent RTLinux conference in Orlando I ran into a guy who was running engine simulations. He wanted to be able to run two copies of the same code at the same time and examine variables in each. Obviously if they are global variables (and they are), he will need some sort of namespace architecture to make this work. Has anyone given this any thought? Not as yet having had any practical experience with RTL/RTAI, from what I've seen so far they appear to be good solutions for small to mid-sized control and data acquisition systems, where inputs and outputs are known and fixed within the application. However, in addition to control and data acquisition, our real-time simulation systems need to: 1) run N number of user applications (simulations or control code written in C and/or Fortran) in real-time, at different rates (typically 5/10/20/50 msec), across multiple cpus (it would be nice if Linux had a notion of real-time priorities, so the only component that would have to run as a kernel module would be the frequency based scheduler) 2) provide the user "on the fly" r/w access to any statically defined parameter in any real-time user application, on any cpu for purposes of display, access from within test scripts, or binding to i/o channels 3) need to provide a comprehensive namespace management scheme, whereby multiple copies of a single executable (with different process names like "left_engine" and "right_engine") may be run, and the user is able to distinguish whether objects of the same name are one shared object, or different objects 4) define/delete/modify i/o channel attributes and bindings to parameters in simulation space, at any time 5) have a system that is self configuring at boot time -- i.e. no i/o process code needs to change when more i/o boards are added/removed 6) scale from small applications - where the number of simulation parameters are in the thousands, and the i/o channel counts are in the hundreds; to large applications - where the the parameter count can be greater than 100,000 and i/o points are greater than 2000 7) provide a utility to walk the elf/dwarf user applications and extract parameter attributes of only the user defined static parameters, such as program, module, common (f77) or C struct, parameter name, parameter type, logical address, number of dimensions, upper/lower bounds of each dimension, etc... 8) allow users to change their real-time applications without ever having to change or re-link the user interface or i/o process applications We are doing all of this now on systems provided by Concurrent Computer Corp (formally Harris Computer Systems). One question I would like to ask for starters: Short of looking at gdb source, how could I extract parameter attribute information from executables (to build a symboltable) -- I don't seen any mention of dwarf info as being available in RedHat 6.2 or 7.0.
