Bug#305471: gnome-session: Erratic logout behavior
Package: gnome-session Version: 2.14.3-5 Followup-For: Bug #305471 Hello, I'm having similar problems: After logging into a GNOME session, I cannot immediately log back out. After clicking on the Log Out button the confirmation dialog disappears but nothing happens. Then, after one or two minutes, I suddenly get kicked out of the desktop without notice, regardless of what I've been doing at that time. Some process seems to keep the desktop alive, but top shows nothing but idle. Logout functions normally after the desktop has been runing for a few minutes. Maybe this is related: After logging in, the splash window persists for about a minute with the word nautilus at the bottom. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-5-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gnome-session depends on: ii gconf2 2.16.1-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-control-center 1:2.14.2-7utilities to configure the GNOME d ii libatk1.0-01.12.4-3 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.14.0-3 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13etch4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libesd00.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon - Shared ii libgconf2-42.16.1-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.4-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.14.3-2 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome2-02.16.0-2 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeui-0 2.14.1-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgtk2.0-02.8.20-7 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice61:1.0.1-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.3-0.2 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.14.8-5 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm6 1:1.0.1-3 X11 Session Management library ii libwrap0 7.6.dbs-13Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxau61:1.0.1-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-5 X11 RandR extension library Versions of packages gnome-session recommends: ii dbus1.0.2-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii desktop-base4.0.1etch2 common files for the Debian Deskto ii gnome-panel 2.14.3-6 launcher and docking facility for ii metacity1:2.14.5-4 A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma ii nautilus2.14.3-11+b1 file manager and graphical shell f -- no debconf information ___ pkg-gnome-maintainers mailing list pkg-gnome-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-gnome-maintainers

Bug#459556: Library recommends applications

And this is why these are recommends, not depends. so these packages SHOULD NOT be recommended by libeel2-2.20. Is there a good reason for this change? The reason is, eel-open-with-dialog now uses app-install-data and synaptic to install applications able to read a specific MIME type. Granted, these recommendations could be moved to nautilus, but this change is not nautilus-specific; that was the whole point in doing it in libeel. Cheers, -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. This is certainly caused by a buggy application that is declared to the session manager but doesn’t register to it. There is a 2 minutes timeout, until which gnome-session is waiting for it to register. You need to dig in the programs launched in .gnome2/session to find out which one is buggy. Bug#456541: Unplugging causes... [SOLVED]
Le dimanche 06 janvier 2008 à 15:50 +, Carlos Moffat a écrit : Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.20.2-1 --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I was also having a problem with the screen dimming after a few seconds or so, which was really annoying. I found a solution[1] which also solved this issue. Apparently, there might some broken schemas in the user side (which is possible, as I've used Debian/Sid for a while). The solution was to run: gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gnome-power-manager as user. hope this helps, Neil. I guess this bug can be closed now. Thanks for the investigation, it is good to know that it comes from a configuration issue. However I’d like to know which exact key is causing the issue; if the problems occurs often when doing upgrades, it would be better to fix it for all users instead of asking them to wipe their configuration. -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Bug#305471: gnome-session: Erratic logout behavior
Le lundi 07 janvier 2008 à 15:15 +0100, Dan H a écrit : Hello Joss, thanks for your quick reply (I'm the one to whom you replied, but my email address was invalid). Your hint didn't help though, even after a rm -r .gnome* the problem perists. The only other culprit I'm suscpecting now is gdlinux, a Google desktop indexing tool which I once installed but which doesn't work for me. I don't know how to stop this from starting up every time though: When I go to Desktop-Preferences-Sessions and then delete it from the list of Startup Programs (where it is the only entry), it always re-appears there. How can I disable it for good? I guess it has installed an autostart file; either in ~/.local/share/autostart, in /usr/local/share/autostart, in /usr/share/gnome/autostart or /usr/share/autostart. Cheers, -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Lower your prices, surrender your code. `. `' We will add your hardware and software distinctiveness to `-our own. Bug#454483: evince: Evince fails to display certain PDF files
Sven Arvidsson [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: On Wed, 2007-12-05 at 22:09 +0530, Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan wrote: I have several PDF files which goes blank while trying to open with evince, but work fine with kpdf, xpdf and gv. The PDF files are not publicly available, but if someone wants to look at fixing this problem, I can send those copies to them. Hi, There are known bugs in Cairo which results in blank documents. These are fixed in version 1.4.12. It would be great if you could test your files again, once this version reaches testing, preferably also using Evince 2.20 and Poppler 0.6. Hi, I decided to move to unstable on my desktop while keeping testing on my laptop and had a chance to test the new evince with new cairo. It rendered those PDFs which were not rendered previously! But nautilus still does not render the PDFs in the icons and shows blank page. Thanks a lot. -- Ramakrishnan[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ pkg-gnome-maintainers mailing list pkg-gnome-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-gnome-maintainers
Bug#456541: Unplugging causes... [SOLVED]
I had manually changed the gconf settings shortly after reporting the problem myself, and was still seeing erratic AC-battery behavior. (Before updating gnome-power-manager, power management on my ThinkPad T42 had been perfect.) I am not able to verify Carlos' solution at this time, since, by strange coincidence, my LCD backlight has stopped working. It is conceivable that the power-management strangeness wore out the backlight tube, which previously had shown no signs of degradation, but that would be surprising. ___ pkg-gnome-maintainers mailing list pkg-gnome-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-gnome-maintainers
