nvidia proprietary drivers (installed from the repository). I used
nvidia-361 for a while with no issues (and i need it for steam gaming).
However, an update installed on my machine yesterday breaks the

Here is an update on this issue: Some People on the ArchLinux Forun[1] found a
fix the cause.
It seems there is a Workaround required (for this audio codec ALC1150) for the
Intel PCHs but the device ids where missing. Until this fix is in ALSA (the

It seems that this problem is not reproducible without splash. I didn't
experience a crash since i removed the splash option from grub.
Also, pressing Esc has no effect on lock ups.
I edited my /etc/init/mountall.conf, but i don't know where to find the

I should have been a bit more detailed about that: The dots keeps
spinning for a time a lot longer than the usual boot, but then suddenly
stop and the systems *freezes*. At least it seems to, as nothing happens

@semente: it seems to me you had another problem.
i cannot confirm. for me, changing the theme does not help. emphaty
keeps crashing. where do i get the list of files and packages dan speaks
of to help identify thsi problem?

im running the 32bit ubuntu. the same problem appears to me. i have bing
running ubuntu karmic since alpha 6, since then upgrading once a day.
here is my crash report from /var/crash

I can confirm Dan's observation. But i believe i created my accounts
myself.
empthy -a works,
empathy -n crashes as emphaty does since a few weeks or days.
also, i tried removing the configured accounts, but that doesn't help at
all.

Upstart prints an ernormous amount of (invalid) errors while boot using
encrypted home

I'm using an encrypted setup using on encrypted partition which contains an lvm
which contains my /home.
This runs fine for a while, but since the last update, upstart prints a lot of
(repeating) errors about these devices being unable to mount
i've had the same problems as craig. although i never touched apparmor
oder akondi configuration before, akonadi kept on failing to start.
disabling apparmor fixed that.
after that, i tried the steps thomas mentioned (aa-complain mysqld-akonadi,
reloading apparmor profiles and then restaerting
