 1. Warning message: Invalid seek

Fixed in 0.99

 2. Warning message: Could not load the dictionary for the _none language
(this probably arises from a login set command that has not assigned an
 environment variable?)

I'll fix this. Text in the -none- language shouldn't be spellchecked

 3. Warning message: Could not load the dictionary for the en_AU
 (enGLISH-AUstralian) language

 4. Warning message: Can't open
 /usr/share/AbiSuite/dicyionary/british.hash

You don't have a british dictionary installed

 5. Under Page Setup, I get the paper size A6 and the dimensions 210 mm
 (w) and 297 mm (h): the latter are correct for A4 paper (which is what
the doc file has) but the paper size is not.

Fixed. Get 0.99

Thank you for your suggestion Dom.

I tried it and got this:

# rpm -ivh abiword-0.99.1-1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libpng.so.3 is needed by abiword-0.99.1-1
libstdc++.so.4   is needed by abiword-0.99.1-1

I tried installing libpng so:

rpm -Uvh libpng-1.2.1-2.i386.rpm

but got many failed dependencies in RedHat 7.2: so it seems like I will
have to make do with the 0.9.6 version, unless you are suggesting a
forced installation, in which case, what happens to my 30-odd
dependencies? I cannot break my RedHat installation for one
application!

Funny, because this was built on a clean redhat 7.2 machine.

In any case, if the binary doesn't work for you and you can't work
around RPM's (many) limitations, you can always rebuild from source.

Where do I get the source for version 0.99? (the RPM was from RedHat
RawHide).

The abiword download site at

http://www.abisource.com/download/

only has the .tar.gz source for version 0.9.6 as far as I can see.

Sorry for the bother.

That's your problem right there! I did wonder about the file name.
Instead, get the RPM from sourceforge.net (look for the abiword project)
