Re: Problem with SD card
Answers to questions below. FWIW, on both systems a different SD card performs with no problem. That and the error message from e2fsck lead me to suspect that my problem is a bad superblock on the card. I've been unable to find any instructions on how to get e2fsck to mark the current superblock bad and create a new superblock. dmesg says [ +41.509460] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): recovery complete [ +0.001206] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem 0fd984c4-cf88-408a-8ba5-15b64500bd5c r/w with ordered data mode. Re: Problem with SD card
Thanks for the reply. The SD card behaves the same way on another system (F37) In desperation, I removed all of the date and used gparted to delete and recreate the file system. It did than, then restored all of the deleted files. I have the new result below. It appears that I need to replace the superblock, but I've been unable to discover how to do that. # e2fsck /dev/mmcblk0p1 e2fsck 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021) MP4: recovering journal Superblock needs_recovery flag is clear, but journal has data. Problem with SD card
I have a 1TB SanDisk XC SD card, which has developed a reluctance to create files. UUID=0fd984c4-cf88-408a-8ba5-15b64500bd5c /Media/SDXC ext4 noauto,rw,user 0 0 % sudo mount /Media/SDXC % touch /Media/SDXC/foo % ls /Media/SDXC/foo /Media/SDXC/foo % sudo umount /Media/SDXC % sudo mount /Media/SDXC % ls /Media/SDXC/foo /bin/ls: cannot access '/Media/SDXC/foo': No such file or directory I used root to mount, just to be sure. User mount has the same problem. gparted reported a problem with the superblock which was resolved by re-formatting and re-creating the partition table. The card has just one partition. Suggestions for further diagnosis would be appreciated. ___ users mailing list -- users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/new_issue

I've been trying to develop strategies for dealing with a suddenly unresponsive system. One thing that looks promising is the "magic sysrq key". FWIW, I reinstalled from live and installed chrome. First reboot survived. Before going into emergency, the last messages had to do with nouveau getting a timeout on some device. Dealing with "Emergency Mode"
When things come ungluded on booting, the user is offered a root login, which seems to be referred to as "Emergency Mode" journalctl is suggested as a place to start looking for causes. In the output there are no priority 0 and 1 (and perhaps 2) problems. Running the reboot with display of the process (I forget exactly how I edited the boot command) shows nothing of interest. fedora-live runs without problems, and I'm able to reinstall 37 and reboot it. kworker leftovers
Fedora 35, not fully up-to-date I run a SiliconDust tuner that converts OTA TV to mp2, which I'm then able to play back using mplayer. An hard-wired ethernet connection is used between the tuner and the main CPU. I notice that there are leftover kworker processes. They are mostly idle and only a few have non-zero time, and then at most only a couple of seconds. For example, 87547 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:1-phy0] 87554 ?I 0:00 [kworker/7:2-events] 87555 ?I 0:00 [kworker/5:2-events] 87556 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:2-btrfs-endio-write] 87557 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:3-btrfs-delalloc] 87558 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:5-btrfs-endio-write] 87559 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:7-events_unbound] 87560 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:9-btrfs-freespace-write] 87561 ?I 0:00 [kworker/u16:10] 87626 ?I< 0:00 [kworker/u17:1] The leftover processes seem to vanish when the system is suspended. It will take me a while to try to understand the output from your suggestions. In the meantime, yes, it is a direct cable to the hdhomerun. There is only one computer involved HDHomerun is a box that converts OTA TV channels (i.e., a tuner) to a feed that is accessed by the local system. Help configuring internal network
F35, fresh install. I have an ethernet-connected device (HDHomerun, fwiw) newly re-compiled on the newly-installed F35 xfce4 workstation. As far as I can tell from trying every network analysis I can find, the connection is good (exception, no response to ping) The interface was configured with the NetworkManager app, that assigned the device eno1. I'm sure that somewhere in all of the data that I collected, the problem sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb, but not to me, alas. I could really use some help. ___ users mailing list -- users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam on the list, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure

Fedora 35 new install no sound
After installing Fedora 35 on a previously-working F32 (pulseaudio), there is no sound. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F35_bugs#No_sound_after_upgrade_.28wireplumber_not_running.29 provided some suggestions, which did not work. In desperation, I erased pipewire and wireplumber and installed pulseaudio. No joy, so I reversed and things are not what they were previously -- that is, no sound but pipewire and wireplumber did not report any problems. I would greatly appreciate some guidance. root@pvr systemctl status wireplumber * wireplumber.service - Multimedia Service Session Manager Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/wireplumber.service; enabled; vendor preset: d> Active: inactive (dead) root@pvr[2]->systemctl enable wireplumber root@pvr[3]->systemctl start wireplumber Failed to start wireplumber.service: Unit pipewire.socket not found. systemctl status pipewire x pipewire.service - PipeWire Multimedia Service Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/pipewire.service; enabled; vendor preset: disa> Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu 2022-03-17 17:30:12 PDT; 23min ago Main PID: 792 (code=exited, status=254) CPU: 20ms ___ users mailing list -- users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam on the list, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure

Re: Picking a new laptop
H ... well how's about a company that designs *for* Linux? Star Labs https://starlabs.systems/ is a UK company that sells direct. I have their Starlite laptops and had absolutely no problem loading Fedora 32, even though it's not one of their "guaranteed to run" distos. Oh, and if something should go wrong, its nice to know that you won't get the, "Oh, we don't support Linux" response.
