Currently the pkg-config returns the link flags in wrong order: $ pkg-config --static --libs audit -lcap-ng -laudit leading to the same errors as before. I'm not 100% sure, but if I quite remember this is a known bug.
Alternatively you could use the 'root_prefix' option (introduced in aide

that?
Please check if the bugs are still present in the latest git version of
aide[0]. If yes, please report bugs to sf.net[0] or if you use
Debian alternatively to the Debian BTS[2] (via reportbug).

I don't think any debhelper autoscripts define shell functions, and so I
am wary of adding that here. A for loop would have the same effect.
What is wrong with shell functions? A for loop wouldn't help here, but
one could hack a while loop analogous to the dh_usrlocal script. However
I think shell functions are the cleaner approach.
I am also somewhat doubtful of the utility of optimising the space used
by the maintainer script snippets. How many files are being registered
with ucf to make this matter?
The aide package currently registers 157 configuration files with ucf.
The current dh_ucf script would generate 936 postinst lines and 2198
postrm lines. My approach only generates 479 postinst lines and 486

by default and change the synopsis to 'dh_ucf [debhelper options] [-n]
[-- params]'.

Hello, As there is no progress with this issue since nearly two months, I would now suggest to go along with the third option cited below. I think a 'libkrb5-static package' is a good compromise to solve both bugs and enable me to use curl with aide. What do you think? I'm only able to reproduce the error message from the cron job, if the cron job is executed right after the installation and before the aideinit process has been finished. Since krb5 does not support static libraries any longer (#439039), the static library of libcurl is now useless (#495163) and therefor cannot be used by the aide package. The options so far proposed in the discussion are described in the quoted message below. I for one would really dislike to drop the static aide binary and think a static curl library without krb support is better than the current one, which is not usable at all. What is your opinion?
