Re: Question regarding time_t transition
Le 12/03/2024 à 19:11, Rene Engelhard a écrit : Are we supposed to report bugs against packages ending up with "t64" and missing the "Provides: " for affected architectures like armhf ? (ignoring ports where the 32bit archs are in the same boat as armel/armhf ttbomk) So the packages not having a Provides: on armel/ armhf are correct. Or are they intentional and we should wait for the package to be tested/ready/whatever ? Intentional, yes. Thank you very much for explaining this. It wasn't clear from the various documents that I found. So the only thing to do is to wait for the dependencies to be available to build my package on armhf ? Regards, -- Raphaël Halimi

Re: Bug#1065816: weston: Dependency neatvnc found: NO found 0.8.0 but need: '< 0.8.0' ; matched: '>= 0.7.0'
Control: block 1036884 by -1 On Sun, 10 Mar 2024 at 10:37:51 +0100, Aurelien Jarno wrote: > weston fails to build in unstable since the upload of neatvnc in version > 8.0. From my build log on amd64: ... > | Dependency neatvnc found: NO found 0.8.0 but need: '< 0.8.0' ; matched: '>= > 0.7.0' This is important for the 64-bit time_t transition, because weston is part of that transition, and also because packages like gtk4 use weston in headless mode to test their Wayland backends. This could be mitigated by temporarily making gtk4 skip its Wayland tests on 32-bit architectures, but with gtk4 hat on, I would not be comfortable with doing that in the long term, because in practice it seems to be inevitable that functionality that isn't tested doesn't actually work. Looking at the recent neatvnc upload, I was surprised to see that its former maintainer updated it to a new upstream release in the same upload as orphaning it (#1065738), and also updated the closely-related wayvnc package to a new upstream release that matches neatvnc. I also noticed that neatvnc 0.8.0 has an ABI break without bumping the SONAME (#1065824), although that might be ignorable since nothing in Debian seems to use the affected symbol. I think the options here in the short term are: 1. adapt weston to support neatvnc 0.8.0, if it's straightforward to do so; 2. revert neatvnc to 0.8.0+really0.7.1+dfsg and wayvnc to 0.8.0+really0.7.2, and revisit this later, when we are *not* in the middle of a transition that touches thousands of packages; 3. temporarily disable the VNC backend in weston, and revisit this later I would personally be very tempted by (2.) since it seems like the option with least risk of regressions when compared with what's currently in trixie, but I have no particular knowledge of these packages, so it would be better if the maintainers of weston and/or wayvnc could adopt neatvnc and handle this in whatever way they prefer. If this situation is not resolved then I might do the revert (2.), by QA-uploading neatvnc and NMU'ing wayvnc. Thanks, smcv

Bug#996329: pal: re glib error(s)
Package: pal Version: 0.4.3-9 Followup-For: Bug #996329 Actually appears to be the same bug as reported earlier. I don't think it's important, the duplicate should be closed. Interactive mode obviously got never fully implemented to put it mildly, and what's left is aging badly. Not too surprising considering the application is 20 years old, the current version about 15 and the package is unmaintained. If the curses interface wasn't entirely useless by now, its usefulness could still be doubted. It should have been left out from the package, that would've also removed the ncurses dependencies, perhaps glib's too. Pal is still doing its trick as a simple command line utility, or what it originally was likely intented to be. But that would probably call for a maintainer. At least it should be made clear that the .pal files are supposed to be maintained manually, it's easy to crash the whole thing from the TUI, not much harder to garble your event files. Regards, Oliver

Your message dated Sat, 07 Oct 2023 21:34:08 + with message-id and subject line Bug#1052986: fixed in apt-listchanges 4.0 has caused the Debian Bug report #1052986, regarding apt-listchanges: When a source package is renamed, the entire old changelog is re-displayed to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. When a source package is renamed (e.g. gcc-* and python3.*), often we carry across the old changelog. apt-listchanges then includes the full history in its list of new changelog entries. In these particular cases, the old history maintains the old source package name and version, so it should be possible to check the database and see that these changelog entries have been displayed. One can argue that it's correct to re-display the full history, but this has the effect of drowning out other changelog entries. When I hit these situation, I just mark-as-read and continue. Yes, this bug is unreproducible as said in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1037638#10 I only didn't close it because I was waiting for a reply and it was mentioned in the initial mail not to close it until a follow-up test rebuild.
