[Bug 525642] Re: gnome-keyring does not start org.freedesktop.secrets

2010-05-07 Thread Haggai Eran
Hi,

I tried adding the missing .service file mentioned in the upstream bug report
myself, but I'm still having trouble using the keyring. If I run seahorse for
example with the new service file in place, I get this error:
** Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
 the network connection was broken.

** (seahorse:11951): WARNING **: couldn't get default keyring name: Error
 communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

This only happens when I use a password-less login.
If by the way I kill the gnome-keyring-daemon process started on login, then
everything works fine.

[Bug 410407] Re: Clicking on items in Flash player does nothing [READ DESCRIPTION]

2010-05-07 Thread Evan Martin
I am the Chromium developer who fixed this again.

Not that anyone cares anymore, but: the problem was that Flash breaks if
GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS isn't set.
The first fix was to set that in our plugin process before starting Flash.

However, GTK clears the environment variable after initializing. So
with nspluginwrapper we would set the variable, initialize GTK, and then
call into the plugin (nspluginwrapper), which would then spawn its
helper process which then would run Flash without the variable set.

So as of today's release of Chrome we set the variable, initialize GTK,
and then immediately set the variable again before calling into the
plugin.

It seems Firefox may have this second bug as well.
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=15232 If I remember tomorrow
I will attempt to track down that bug in their bug tracker again.

[Bug 576825] [NEW] GDM doesn't handle avatars with transparent background

2010-05-07 Thread Tomasz Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Steps to reproduce:

1. Pick avatar with transparent background for your account, like
/usr/share/pixmaps/faces/tennis-ball.png in About Me dialog.
2. Logout or restart computer.

What happens:

At the GDM login screen, the background in your avatar is displayed as
gray, instead of being transparent.

What should happen:

Transparent background should be treated as such.

[Bug 555122] Re: Cannot adjust brightness in Lucid Lynx

2010-05-07 Thread phox
HP EliteBook 6930p has similar issues after upgrade to 10.4. It even
managed to dim the display when plugging the AC cord IN after it was on
full brightness running on Battery. Neither FN keys nor Brightness
Applet work properly. I can't even grab the trigger, because the window
disappears on click and next time it appears on the top left of the
screen.

Everything was working fine with Karmic before, even the FN keys.

Changing brightness on command line after changing permission as said
under #4 works.

I'm using the ATI drivers (with ATI Radeon HD 3430)

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

One way round this is to enable transparent proxy on your proxy. This
would allow the proxy setup to be invincible to internet aware
applications withing your network. You might want to talk to your
network admin.

[Bug 576866] [NEW] Cannot reduce number of components in RAID array

2010-05-07 Thread Pete Stephenson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

1. Version of Ubuntu:
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

2. Version of package:
  Installed: 2.30.1-1
  Candidate: 2.30.1-1
  Version table:
 *** 2.30.1-1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3. What do I expect to happen:
a. Create new RAID-1 array with 2 components using the gnome-disk-utility GUI.
Have the array build and report the array status as Running.
b. Add a new component to the array using the Edit Components GUI and the
Expand Array option. Have the array report degraded and sync the new
component. After rebuilding the array, gnome-disk-utility reports the total
number of components in the array as 3 and the status of the array as
Running.
c. Remove a component from the array using the Edit Components GUI. The
selected component is removed from the array. gnome-disk-utility reports total
number of components in the array as 2 and reports the array status as
Running.

4. What happened instead:
a. Created new RAID-1 array with 2 components using the gnome-disk-utility GUI.
Had the array build and report as Running.
b. Added a new component to the array using the Edit Components GUI and the
Expand Array option. Had the array report degraded and sync the new
component. After the array rebuilt, gnome-disk-utility reported the total
number of components in the array as 3 and the status of the array as
Running. Everything is as expected so far.
c. Removed a component from the array using the Edit Components GUI. The
selected component is removed from the array. gnome-disk-utility continues to
report the total number of components in the array as 3 and reports the array
status as degraded.
d. Attempts to stop and restart the array using the GUI did not resolve the
problem. The array continued to report its status as degraded and the number
of components as 3 even though there were only two components. While in this
state, any component added as a spare using the GUI was immediately brought
into service and the array rebuilds with 3 components.

Note: If, in step b., I select Add Spare, select the new component,
then remove one of the old components, gnome-disk-utility reports the
array as degraded, rebuilds into the spare, and when done, reports the
status as running and the number of components in the array as 2.
This is desired behavior, but does not address my problem.

I wish to always maintain at least two healthy disks in my array. If I
need to replace a disk with a new one, I can, as mentioned in the note
above, mark the new disk as a spare and remove the old disk from the
array. While this will eventually rebuild the array, it leaves the array
in a degraded state until the new disk is fully synced, leaving data at
risk. Rather, I wish to be able to add a new disk to the existing array
of two disks, have it sync up, then remove one of the old disks, leaving
one old and one new disk in the array. In this situation, there are
always at least two disks in the array at all times. Unfortunately, this
does not result in the desired result, as gnome-disk-utility thinks that
I want to permanently change the number of disks in the array from 2 to
3. There is no way to tell gnome-disk-utility that I wish to decrease
the number of disks in the array from 3 to 2.

[Bug 576880] [NEW] battery not detected at all on lucid

2010-05-07 Thread obrowny
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi,
Moving from karmic to lucid, I lost my battery management (in
system/preferences/). I only have the AC tab. My battery is not detected at all
:

cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present: no

modprobe battery
FATAL: Module battery not found.

I have tried with a liveusb and it is exactly the same thing.

If I unplug the AC, battery works.

It was fine with karmic

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-05-07 Thread aloisam
Right now, i think unmount is the best option, Kamereon has true:

The only way I know to really free this space on an external drive is to use
'unmount'. On 'unmount' Nautilus will ask me if i want to delete the trash.
'safely remove' and 'eject' will not do that.
So I think that even the most non-technical users will need 'unmount' if they
ever want to free some space on their drive.
A better solution would of course be, if 'safely remove' and 'eject' would be
merged to one command and that that command would also clear the trash.

And there is bug related:

This bug appears frequently on russian pdfs.

Some more example:
On the attached pdf Evince adds 'e' symbol to the end of every word. Also, it
adds many other symbols when the text is in =2 columns.
PDF file example-russian-pdf.pdf and two screenshots are attached.

I just tried that document too... But I noticed it was generated by
Cairo... which is a graphical library, not a text processor...

So I wouldn't be surprised if the PDF itself is the problem here... But
this is just speculation...

Has anybody tested that PDF in the official Adobe Acrobat Reader?

[Bug 572922] Re: Several items in the menu was not translated into zh_CN.

2010-05-07 Thread Florian W.
I'm not sure if this is related to this bug. The german translation of
gcalctool (in lucid, 5.28.2) misses some menu strings, like Edit,
Undo, Redo or Insert ASCII value.

The launchpad translation page for gcalctool shows no missing strings.

An update for gnome-translations-de (or whatever these packages are
called) was installed a few hours ago and the translation strings are
still missing.

[Bug 453605] Re: Make default mount umasks configurable

2010-05-07 Thread X-Ander
I have added the following lines to my /etc/fstab:

/dev/sdb1 /media/usbd1 auto
noauto,rw,user,shortname=mixed,dmask=02,fmask=0113,utf8=1,flush 0 2
/dev/sdc1 /media/usbd2 auto
noauto,rw,user,shortname=mixed,dmask=02,fmask=0113,utf8=1,flush 0 2

Now two USB flash drives are mounted as I want. I don't need more
because I have only two USB connectors free at my netbook.

The idea was suggested by http://hal.freedesktop.org/docs/DeviceKit-
disks/Device.html#Device.FilesystemMount

What one has to do with another? Trash icon doesn't get properly updated and
that's why users need umount? That's just ridiculous. Users need Trash icon to
properly reflect Trash contents and that's all. Not everyone wants to empty

Omer,

please see my comment in the Gnome bug tracker
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617147#c12) and explain to
me the reasoning for saying that a completely empty client (!) window is
caused purely (!) by the window manager. Maybe something in compiz
triggers the problem, but an empty client window is primarily the
problem of the application.

Re: [Bug 422761] Re: Gstream-Ubuntu 9.04 Issues

2010-05-07 Thread ibmloveslinux
I can assure you though that it won't work because of the
proprietaryness of most Panasonic equipment, especially since it was
designed for our enemy windows. Even with that I had tried every
verson of Ubuntu on the Panasonics, I have had 6 Panasonic toughbooks,
and when I got 9.04 to work on it I was so happy except for the fact
that sometimes when you wouldn't start it up it would freeze on boot,
also you would have no HOTKEY's because of that dam ACPI. Japanese
ACPI's and Ubuntu just don't mix let me say that, I care less how many
people say different. But with the 30+ Laptops I have had personally
and the years of experience and the 7+ High Level programming
languages I already know and my knowledge of Electrical Engineering,
trust me Japanese ACPI and Ubuntu hate each other, sometimes they work
and sometimes they don't.

[Bug 576928] [NEW] Compiz causes Totem to display a black screen

2010-05-07 Thread roadSurfer
Public bug reported:

This is on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Desktop: Gnome
Compiz: 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15
Totem: 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1
Chipset: Intel 82865G Integrated Graphics
Hardware: Dell Optiplex GX270

If I have Compiz enabled, Totem almost always display a black screen for video.
This includes the example Ogg Theora (UbuntuIsHumanity.ogv). If I move or
resize Totem, I will see a frame and then it gets replaced with all black.
Trying full-screen and other options does not seem to resolve it.
As soon as I disable Compiz, Totem works perfectly.

Sometimes Totem will display the video initially when I am running Compiz, but
as soon as I resize or move Totem the problem begins again.
This does not happen with Compiz disabled.

The ubuntu-bug tool seems to have fingered gstreamer0.10, from the
behaviour it looks more like a Compiz fault; but I am no expert.

2010-05-07 Thread Dallman Ross
My computer running Lucid -- and before the upgrade -- Karmic -- on a

Unfortunately, I did not look to see what the screensaver is named. It
was the one where columns of green text-like figures slide vertically

[Bug 576943] [NEW] screen permanently on dim

2010-05-07 Thread kmersk...@hotmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using a nebook, Asus Eee PC. I am dual booting, Windows 7 is the
other OS. I'm new to Ubuntu only had it installed about a month so not
sure what I'm doing. But I was running 9.14, and then upgraded to 10.04
about a week ago. On 9.14 I had no problem with screen brightness.
Once 10.04 was installed the screen brightness is down around 60-70% I'd
guess, even while the setting is at 100%.

After 2 minutes of activity (I have set it at 2 minutes) when the screen
normally should dim, instead it brightens slightly, perhaps 5% more
brighter. Both performance and powersaver are set at 100%. No change
to screen brightness between AC and battery settings. If I lower the
setting on either powersaver or performance it will respond
appropriately, but it will not get brighter.

[Bug 33288] Re: Evince doesn't handle columns properly

2010-05-07 Thread arand
Do note that this bug and fix only concerns column selection flow
handling e.g. the common issue that selecting one column will select
the other simultaneously.

The (also very common) issue of selected text disappearing and
displaying random characters is a separate issue NOT addressed by this
patch.

The correct one for that issue is Bug #39321 which IS correctly marked
as not fixed.

[Bug 576133] [NEW] Problem creating a user with encrypted home directory and automatic logon.

2010-05-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

When setting up a new user, if you choose to both encrypt the home
directory and automatically logon this prevents the account from being
used. I.E when trying to logon you get errors such as cannot update
.ICEauthority, can't create Nautilus directories etc. eventually
resulting in a blank desktop and having to do a forced reboot.

IMO, the two options should be mutually exclusive anyway as encrypting
your ~/ is utterly pointless with a passwordless logon. At the very
least, there should be some kind of warning (e.g. Don't be an idiot :)
).

Re: [Bug 33288] Re: Evince doesn't handle columns properly

2010-05-07 Thread Mark Emerick
This document does have the column selection issue. Each row of four numbers
in A1, ..., A5 behaves as a table that includes some of the text above it as
well as the single-character line below.

There is an interesting behavior in slowly selecting one character at a time
from left to right along the row of numbers. When you reach the space
between each entry (say between 1) 30 and 2) 60 in A1), the selection
skips to the line above, then skips back down when the next number is
scanned.

When making a multi column selection from a PDF like this:

 http://www.specialist-games.com/mordheim/assets/lrb/1Rules.pdf

And pasting the result into OpenOffice.org the columns are not maintained.
The results unusable because the text from both columns becomes mixed.

Please note, this is not a PDF problem, using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.x
