Thanks Lucas!

We are already excited to see that many colleagues will join Wosonos2024 at
the end of October to celebrate Harrison Owen's life and this promising
method.

We are looking forward to a meaningful and fulfilling WOSonOS that would
open the way to many further open spaces.

Regards,
Funda

[OSList] Some thoughts from a conference from last week and invitation to 30th World Open Space on Open Space in Istanbul

2024-05-19 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Last week, I once again had the opportunity to experience how Open Space
Technology brought life to an important conference (
https://www.dnbgf.de/veranstaltungen/dnbgf-konferenz-2024). I have been of
the same opinion for about 20 years; working with methods where every
individual can contribute, participate and feel free is *the ONLY* way out
for efficient and healthy social structures (institutions, communities,
organisations, etc.).

First thoughts regarding last week work experience:
It was a pleasure to work with my colleagues Mia Konstantinidou and
Michael Pannwitz (from Boscop) who have many years of experience
facilitating meetings/events with OST. (Mia was the facilitator, Michael
was the first assistant and I was the second assistant)
More than 200 participants started to organize themselves in a very short
time. The community became alive. In a way, oxygen and blood flowed to the
conference hall.
With a leadership approach in line with this method, the conference has
been very productive. The leaders carefully noted the issues that the
participants cared about and posted on the agenda board, listened to their
action plans seriously and took notes.
Everyone took the steering wheel, this is how they determined their
direction.
 We all learned from each other, changed, transformed and developed all
together.

When it comes to me, I had once again the pleasure to work for a conference
conducted with the Open Space method. I felt at home, safe and natural.
Thousands of Thanks!

I would like to remind you again that the 30th annual meeting on Open Space
Technology (World Open Space on Open Space 2024) will be held for the first
time ever, in Istanbul. Book your  ticket without delay within the early
bird period.

[OSList] WOSonOS Istanbul Updates no: 2

2024-04-29 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Please note that we have changed the venue for WOSonOS Istanbul and updated
our web page accordingly: *https://wosonos2024.istanbul/
*

The new venue "Alan Kadıköy" is a new performance centre that belongs to
Kadiköy Municipality. One of the reasons for moving WOSONOS 2024 there is
that the name of this beautiful performance center is already "Alan"
meaning "Space".

Kadikoy (Chalcedon) Coast is easily accessible from the venue (Chalcedon is
the first settlement founded by the Greeks of Megara on the Bosphorus in
685 BC). Kadıköy and especially Yeldeğirmeni, with many bars, cinemas,
restaurants and bookstores, is a residential and commercial district, the
liberal cultural center of the Anatolian side of Istanbul. Please note that
Conservative Parties have never won in this area.

We think that this modern, brand new events center will add meaning and
importance to WOSonOS especially following the loss of Harrison. It offers
a comfortable and safe space suitable for up to 300 people. We also hope
that through this event, we will be able to send a message to local
authorities about participatory approaches. Another characteristic of this
neighborhood is that despite this rapidly changing city, there are self
organized solidarity movements who are trying to protect their living
spaces and valleys (unfortunately a few green spaces left in Istanbul) and
who are in cooperation with the Local Municipality. We are planning to
invite them to WOSonOS 2024 to enable participants to feel connected to
what is happening locally.

And last but not least for today I would like to share with you a song from
a kurdish, turkish, danish singer with their group

about Istanbul:

Have a wonderful week!

[OSList] World Open Space on Open Space Istanbul-Updates no:1

2024-04-16 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We decided to make small changes about the plans of WOSonOS 2024 Istanbul.

We had already booked a nice venue from a local government in Istanbul a
few months ago and wanted to wait for the results
of the local elections. After the passing of Harrison Owen and following
local elections, we decided to change the venue.

The new venue will be https://alankadikoy.com/ and we are planning to sign
the contract at the end of this week and update the venue on the web page
of the event.

Meanwhile, we are happy to receive the early bird registrations. Some of
you have already registered and listed
as co-inviters. (https://wosonos2024.istanbul/co-inviters/). We are looking
forward to your registration, invitation sentences and photos.

Starting from next month, we will also work for "Inclusion". Serhan Karatas
(serhankara...@gmail.com) will join us
to support us in this area. I know that some of you wanted to support
WOSonOS Istanbul for "diversity and inclusion". We
will be in touch with you about this work in the coming days.

We hope to finalize the contract for the venue and share with you further
information about accommodation.
We have already visited a nice hotel nearby and received some discount for
the participants of the WOSonOS 2024.

Let's see together what is emerging,

2024-03-29 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are looking forward to hosting you in Istanbul where local elections
take place in 2 days.

Yes, come and join our WOSonOS 2024 circle with your students, friends and
family!

We are getting prepared to be able to host a diverse and inclusive group of
participants in the venue (diversity in age, countries, identities,
nationality, profession, and so on). One of the reasons to hold WOSonOS
2024 in Istanbul was that there are less
barriers to access in our city (visa, flights so on).

We recognise the importance of the event and the responsibility that the
passing of Harrison Owen has placed on us.

We are already happy to see participants from various countries getting
registered. There is also some interest from
different groups in Turkey (professionals, activists, students so on)

We will keep you informed about the developments and planning to include
some of you in the preparations.

Have a wonderful week-end,
Funda, Yeşim, Bike

[OSList] Re: Loving you...

2024-03-18 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Harrison, Dear OST Community,
I was facilitating a meeting with Open Space Technology near Berlin on
March 16th, at one point in the venue, in front of the Agenda Board, in the
middle of the notepads, participants were eating and working, dancing and
juggling. All at the same time. That's when I thought of Harrison. Turns
out that we were actually saying goodby. I admit I worked harder than he
always advised. But I want share with you some of the feedback I got: "we
created a flower garden together", "my only reality was the time here, I
thought of nothing else", "I got out of the life we were stuck in, I became
alive, my space expanded", "the method is beautiful and organic".
Thanks Harrison, you always generously and modestly shared your knowledge.
You were always there when I needed some information and support from you.
Thanks for saying that "anybody with a good heart" can do this job.
Open Space Technology didn't only change my life but also clarified where I
want to stand, what I want to do.
You know, we will host World Open Space on Open Space this year in Istanbul.
We will have a chance to come together, talk and think about you. We will
hold the space you left for us gracefully, respectfully.

Dear Open Space Community,

This weekend i facilitated a meeting with open space and the participants
were very satisfied, productive and had a great time. I told them the story
of Harrison, how he created this method drinking his martini.

I am very sorry for the loss of Harrison. We had invited him to Wosonos
2024 Istanbul. I wanted to believe that he could come.

Thanks Harrison for reminding us that work, joy, love and freedom are
possible with simplicity.

I am grateful and will miss you.
My condolences to his wife, children and to all of you.

Dear Peggy,

Would it be possible to give more information about the aim? The theme and
host and so on?

I am asking this because I sometimes work in Berlin in multi languages
project as International Communication Consultant. I realize that barriers
to communication are more than just language. When it comes to an online
OST it's again another issue.

Lets discuss futher later if you need,

There is also Audrey Hepburn who translated the book of Open Space

2024-03-07 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Michael and Chris,

Thanks for your support and collaboration!

We also aim to have a nice time with all the participants, host everybody
in a fun, safe, comfortable and peaceful space,
hold the space for meaningful conversations and maybe for decisions toward
efficient actions.

Afterwards, eventually, we wish to pass the talking stick to the next host
for 2025.

We will keep you informed.

Looking forward meeting many of "everyone in the OSlist"

Dear Genza,

We have already received very helpful and valuable Wisdom from Boscop and
WOSonOS 2023 team.

And yes, we would be more than happy to receive the updated Wisdom prepared
by Lisa Heft.

We are deciding and planning step by step. There are of course many
decisions to make and actions to take
on the way.

Thanks very much, I really feel hugged,

back from my German Course in Berlin that is getting ready for a Beautiful
Spring
preparing for an online meeting with my partners in crime in Istanbul.

Warmly,
Funda

[OSList] Fwd: The “shaman” is actually Harrison Owen

2024-02-13 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Harrison Owen,
Dear Chris Corrigan,
Dear OSList,

I think, we need Open Space Technology as described and written and
designed by Harrison Owen around the world.

However we don't need any Shaman.

I don't how much time to write my opinions but I never use these principles
with religious other spiritual references.

People understand these principles easily from their life, from where they
come from.

Thanks!

2024-02-11 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We invite you to book the following dates for WOSonOS 2024 Istanbul in your
calendar: *Oct.31st, Nov.1st and 2nd.*

After having searched for more than two months we have booked a venue in
the "Teacher's Residence" in the historical part of Beyoglu called Pera.
At the time of Ottoman Empire, this district was mainly inhabited by Greek,
Jewish, Italian and French citizens.

We will share further information and details in the coming days.

Have a nice week,

2024-01-16 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Hi Alexander,

I also suggest QiQochat for your work as with qiqochat, the meeting
documents and the room created/designed for you
on the internet remain as it is. Participants and you can refer to that
page whenever you need.

Good luck!

2023-12-04 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Harrison,

I had travelled from Istanbul to Berlin for your 70th Birthday and we had a
great party at Berlin Open Space Cooperative. Now i am in Berlin again.
Next year we are organizing Wosonos in Istanbul.

Ever since, i keep bothering everybody around me with this simple yet
somehow difficult to explain method, Open Space Technology.

Thanks Harrison, OST has also changed my life as many of my colleagues and
it keeps me hope for the humanity.

Best wishes and Happy birthday

[OSList] Fwd: 24 hour virtual Open Space?

2023-10-08 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Patrice,

This is not insane at all. Thanks for taking responsibility to bring up
such a crucial discussion and organizing this event.

I took part in the following 24 hours virtual event in 2022 and i have
participated in several preparatory meetings before the actual event.

Future of Work 24 Hours 2022 — Unimagined Possibilities
https://qiqochat.com/e/2022fow24hrs

I will be happy to share my experiences with you.

Lucas Cioffi, the creator of QiqoChat, is very experienced about various
virtual open space meetings.

In addition, in your case, I would mention a few "safe space" rules in
addition to OST principles: Respectful language, no stereotypes and
prejudices, no mockery, don't exclude, don't embarrass, no gossip, no
discriminatory jokes,no sexualised language, fast in encouragement and
appreciation, slow in criticism, Take as much time to listen as to talk.

Good Luck,

[OSList] Re: Is OST sustainable? HOW OST Communities are organized?

2023-08-18 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Michael,

I am grateful for "open space world.org". Thanks! I have translated the OST
text into Turkish with Filiz Telek and Ozge Ertem
many years ago and I uploaded the pictures of the first OST that we
facilitated with my colleagues in Istanbul.

I then had my OST internet address (AAT Organizasyon) for many years. I
have not added the address in "openspaceworld.org"
but I added the link to Open Space World Org. on my website. I don't
have this website now because I was not sure if it was worth it?

Now I want to discuss this issue with anybody who cares about the
methodology called OST.

As you all know the world organizes itself as Harrison Owen has foresaw
perfectly many years ago. We can see this in facebook groups,
whatsapp groups, lately I came across "Meet Up" . This is really magic.

To make it short, I wanted to analyze how we are organized, not as OST
community. Yesterday I forgot to add Face Book Goups, Linked In Pages,
QiQoChat Communities, etcand discuss with my colleagues if this is what
we want and what we need?

Have a wonderful weekend,

[OSList] Is OST sustainable? HOW OST Communities are organized?

2023-08-17 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Colleagues and OST Practitioners,

As someone who cares for this method and as someone who acts as an
organizational consultant for her clients, I wanted to contribute a little
bit
for OST.

Here are the list of relevant organizations, web addresses and several
communities:

*OST as described by Harrison Owen *
https://osius.org/
https://openspaceworld.org/wp2/
https://www.boscop.org/
https://www.openspaceworldmap.org/worker/michael-m-pannwitz
https://openspaceworldscape.org/
Asia Pacific OSONOS Community
ICA Taiwan

*Communities that intersects with OST*
Genuine Contact Community
Art of Hosting Community

Special thanks to Michael M. Pannwitz who inspired me to start this work.
This work is open to any discussion and contribution of course.

It would be nice to prepare a map of this work adding the names of
responsibles.

I know that many of us work related to "sustainability" issues. What I
would like to discuss in fact is
whether the principles of OST can help the method to be sustainable and/or
to travel to areas where it's needed?

Of course, this question of mine is just an invitation, like many other
questions.

Have a great afternoon, morning or evening,

Funda Oral
from Istanbul and from Berlin

Note: please don't invite me for any further training about OST. I am not
willing to buy any training nor certificate to do my work.

[OSList] liberating structures, art of hosting, peace and many mores

2023-08-04 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Colleagues,

I have lately read some discussions here and else where about liberating
structures'.

Have we discussed "Art of Hosting" that sells or introduce a package of
tools including ost.?

Anyhow this is not what I want to discuss now.

My question and concern is that all these precious approaches based on
long human history and traditions of human being become a "product" and as
we become sellers/ competitors.

I am wondering if we, ourselves are connecting with each other?

I see that social media is far beyond what we imagined here, in ost
community ( if there is one) as far as "self organization" concerned.

So maybe ost has already completed its life cycle?

Have a nice week end,

[OSList] Fwd: Public Space, Plurality and Freedom according to Hannah Arendt

Subject: Public Space, Plurality and Freedom according to Hannah Arendt
To: World wide Open Space Technology email list <
osl...@lists.openspacetech.org>

Hi everybody,

What Hannah Arendt describes seems to point out "Open Space Technology".
Have a nice weekend.

Funda Oral

"The “political” which Arendt seeks to revive in her work is a concept
which both links and transcends these notions of natality and plurality.
Its core is freedom: Freedom for Arendt is not simply liberty from outside
forces or private necessities, but a freedom enabled by natality, by the
capacity to make beginnings, a freedom expressed in action. *It is the
human freedom to act, to speak, and to create shared spaces through
interaction with others.* This interaction requires that a *plurality* of
human beings communicate with each other about the terms of their
*coexistence*. Plurality is thus both a basic existential fact of human
existence which requires* interaction, communication and cooperation*, so
that *a shared life with others becomes possible*, and plurality enables
action and speech within *shared spaces*, because interaction is contingent
upon the presence of others. At the intersection of these two notions we
encounter the true meaning of the political: It is the *realization of
freedom through interaction with others in public spaces.*" Andrea Thuma

Dear Colleagues,

Considering the following upcoming "art of hosting training in Istanbul" I

I have already hosted Interactive Organizations Meeting there many years
ago. Mia Konstantinidou and Michael (Junior) Pannwitz from Boscop have
facilitated the event .Gail West has travelled from Taiwan to join us❤️.

Come and join us at Wosonos in Berlin where East meets West (or vice

versa).

Istanbul is also easier to access for many countries.

We can discuss this issue further in October in Berlin.

2023-06-04 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Everybody,

Thank you to those who ask questions and who take time to answer.

I participated in the planning meeting and kept thinking about this issue.

I am just a little bit hesitant about the *How can we better enjoy the
flow of life? *concept in Berlin as there
are so many alternatives *to enjoy the flow of life*. I don't know why
people would come to WOSONOS?

I may suggest :

*"How can we enjoy the leadership of everyone: taking responsibility for
what we care for?"*

Looking forward to WOSONOS Berlin.

[OSList] Re: A little history...

2023-04-04 Thread Funda Oral via OSList
Dear Greg, Michael, Harrison and Thomas,

Thanks very much for your answers and contribution.

I also have facilitated powerful meetings, coming togethers with OST. In
addition, I have coordinated a little
music school for almost 10 years with the OST approach and have experienced
how fruitful the results we got.

The question remains the same, my answers and the business life keep
changing throughout the years
since 2004. Nevertheless I keep asking this question and I guess this is
going to be a lifelong question for me

Several answers I found, in addition to yours: Culture of Competition,
Timelessness, The Fear,
Impatience in Decision Making.

In the seminars I make I remind the participants that "Every decision we
make without including the parties concerned
has a price to be paid (maybe later in the history) and OST is the most
efficient method for inclusion to decision making"

I am looking to further discussion and collaboration around these issues.

Regards,
Funda Oral

Dear Harrison and OST Colleagues,

This is a great story. However, I ask the same question I had asked in GOA
at WOSONOS
several years ago:

"Why is OST not used more often everywhere in the World? although
it has the potential to solve many problems we face today (that's what I
think)

Are we going to wait for "Self Organization of the Systems by Itself?"
Is there anything we could do "more or less"?

Or maybeOST is highly demanded and I am not aware of this.

Have a nice week,

Dear Diana,

As far as I understand, Open Space Technology approach is closer to *Holacracy
*"https://www.holacracy.org/; then to *Sociocracy*.
Hopefully, all these approaches and methods lead to and complete each other
for a better collaboration.

Have a nice weekend!
