Period End Accounts

2018-01-21 Thread Mike Stillingfleet

Dear All,

I have just been through the annual preparation of my accounts. I have a couple
of questions as a result.

1. I am sure that GNU has 'lost' the reconciled status of transactions which I
know I have previously reconciled. Is this my imagination or is this possible?
Unfortunately this has demanded that I re-reconcile two bank accounts back to
2014 which was a complete pain.

2. Reports which I created and saved have been completely 'lost' from the
Reports \ Saved Report Configurations. This definitely is not my imagination.
I have several years worth of reports saved to PDF which have been submitted to
my accountants in prior years. These reports have disappeared from GNU.

3. I think that I have asked this question previously but I will asked it
again. Does GNU provided a mechanism by which it can do a period end. So that
accruals can be recorded and current year transactions turned into prior year
and 'set in stone'.

Thank you.

The num field[*] is for the check number or other accounting document.
(In a business situation, you always need to have some unique identifier
between accounting entries and the physical or electronic documents that
justify them in case of control (=audit).

[*] I say this because it makes sense in the context of accounting, not
because I actually know what was in the developers' minds when they
implemented it.

Keyboard Shortcuts Additions in Linux

2018-01-21 Thread Roger Miskowicz
I wanted to add ctrl-b to reconcile and discovered that in:

https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Keyboard_Shortcuts#Modifying_
Keyboard_Shortcuts

The following text is incorrect in that it doesn't work on my Linux:

Linux Kilo 4.10.1-041001-generic #201702260735 SMP Sun Feb 26 12:36:48 UTC
2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

"Accelerators

Under *Linux* hot keys can be created or reassignated. Open a terminal and
type:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface can-change-accels true"

However, editing

*~/.gnucash/accelerator-map*

did work by changing a line to:

 (gtk_accel_path
"/GncPluginPageRegisterActions/ActionsReconcileAction"
"b")

Inserting a split line

2018-01-21 Thread aegross
Greetings,

When entering a split is there a method for inserting a split line before an
existing split line? I usually add new split lines to the end of my list of
splits but for a particular recurring transactions it's grown a little messy
over time with similar items not grouped together.

Thanks,
AEG

Paul:

I can not speak for the OS you are running, GnuCash may look a little
different.  As will your Quicken program.  I am still running Windoze.

My version (2014), of quicken, will not export to .csv, only .qif and
.qfx.  I would recommend exporting to .qif instead.  The qif exported
file will allow for multiple split transactions, I do not know about the
csv export.  If I remember correctly I exported all of my quicken data
in one shot and imported it.

Sometimes GnuCash has to "chew" on an import for a while.  I frequently
get a message in the top title bar that Gnucash is "not responding".
Wait a few minutes and see if it finishes.  I gave up on .csv imports
because I could never assign the right fields. All I use is .qif and .ofx.

If csv is your only choice, try loading one of your csv files into a
spreadsheet program, it makes it easier to see the layout. If it is a
layout problem the spreadsheet program will complain. Then look for
inconsistency's  in the data fields.

If that doesn't work then you will have to look at your csv file the
hard way, with a text editor.

David T. you nailed it.

I put the file in a word processor and changed all of the dates from
MM/DD/ to MM-DD- and it worked beautifly. Thanks much.

I will be taking the server down around 2:30pm, give or take.

I'll email again when it's back online.

Sorry for the short notice for this move; I have to coordinate with

Thanks!

Each of the files that I have been trying to import contains three weeks of

Those don’t sound like large files, so it sounds like there might be something
wrong. Do they ALL hang, or only some of them?

I will admit that I am not one to advise on importing, as I don’t do it much.
That being said, I would take a close look at the source files—especially the
date fields, as GnuCash can be somewhat finicky around variably-formed dates.
