Re: [GNC] Cash Flow report

2018-06-03 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I too am not clear on what the GnuCash version of the Cash Flow report is
supposed to be. It is nothing like any such report I’ve seen from my accounting
texts or any resource on the subject online.

I get that it generally tells you where money is coming from and where it is
going, but the presentation is quite odd.

Re: [GNC] Cash Flow report

2018-06-03 Thread DaveC49
Martijn,

I can't really comment on the Cash Flow reportas implemented in GnuCash and
it's options but the doubling of accounts in the selected list when the show
subaccounts is selected does appear to be strange and may be a bug. My
understanding of a Cash Flow Report is that it includes:

cash receipt and cash payments from the operating activities of the business
   cash collections from customers
cash receipts of interest ( on accounts receivable)
cash receipts of dividends (current assets- short term trades)
payments to suppliers (including via A/P
   payments to employees
payments for interest expens and income tax expenses ( on current
assets)
   depreciation and amortization expenses

cash flows from investing activities ( i.e interest and dividends received
on non-current assest and cash from sale of assets, investments and
collection of loans)

Cash flows from Financing activities
proceeds of share issues and bills payable
payments of bills payable and share buybacks
 payments of cash dividends

Even though Accounts Receivable (and Accounts Payable) are in the income
statement for the period, only payments received against A/R and payments
made should be included in the Cash Flow statement. A/R and (A/P) are not
included in the set of default selections in the GnuCash CashFlow report
which is correct. Similarly neither are Credit Cards accounts and other
Liability accounts are not included as payments to them will be captured as
payments from the current asset accounts.

It does get set automatically in some operations, grep the sources for
xaccSplitSetAction to see what and then decide if you can avoid them.
A safer approach (at least for the near term) would be to create a slots entry

I am sure this issue has been well aired so I apologise for the question:

Is there a present, definative way to get my quotes going again?

[GNC] Action column in Splits table

Hi.

I use gnucash 2.6.19 on windows 10 with a mysql database data store.

I've been developing a java standalone application to allow me to store one
or more attachments for a gnucash splits record. My attachments table is
not stored within the same database as gnucash uses.

Although it's not mandatory, it would be convenient if I could use if I

explain what the action column is used for (or reserved for) so I am
reluctant to use that column without knowing what it is intended for.

Can anyone tell me what the action column in splits is for or will be used

Thanks in advance

John,

This may make more work for them than they're willing to take on.
Especially during tax season. They'd still need to re-keyboard the data.

Ask your accountant what information they want from you for each reporting
period, then provide only that. You make their job easier and avoid
unintentional errors. And, of course, increased costs from the time they
spend extracting the information from what you send.

From what you are saying I probably need to make contact with a number of
accountants in my area and see if I can convince any of them to give it a
try.

  Good luck with that.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash Friendly Accountant

2018-06-03 Thread John Robins

Many thanks for your experience.

What I am hoping to find is an accountant whereby we can share the
GnuCash file on Dropbox with them and then they can output the
information they need for our filings. That of course would require the
accountant to have GnuCash operating (on Mac or PC) and have some basic
understanding of how it works and how to set it up so that we can set up
the accounts together. That would leave me to enter the transactions on
to the books day by day, month on month and for the accountant to just
check over them and do the filing.

From what you are saying I probably need to make contact with a number
of accountants in my area and see if I can convince any of them to give
it a try.

Many thanks, John

2018-06-03 Thread John Robins

Hi, Adrien.

I totally agree with your take on the reporting mechanism. And given how
good the core application is I can't help but feel that a major upgrade
of the reporting mechanism would have a significant influence on
increasing usage/uptake. That aside, I have had a quick look at PieCash
and at first glance it looks to be quite a bit beyond my computer
capability - I'll have another look later and see if i can get my head
around it, but thanks for the heads up.

There is no such report.

You can run a multi-column report and put each column as a different month’s
P, but that will repeat the account name header column.

More than likely, you’ll need to either export and import, or copy/paste
individual months into a spreadsheet and work from there. (a simple select-all,
copy/paste is usually sufficient)

Re: [GNC] Profit and Loss Spreadsheet

2018-06-03 Thread D via gnucash-user
Possible? Anything is possible. However, knowing the community, I doubt you'll
get much traction. The developer pool is shallow, unfortunately.

Given the fact that a spreadsheet is a much better tool for the kind of
manipulations I imagine you're seeking, the devs are going to focus on bigger
core issues.

Of course, this is just my opinion.
