Re: [GNC] Flatpack GnuCash v3.2 available in Linux Mint and flathub website

2018-07-11 Thread DaveC49
Colin,

There is a link labelled issues to the Gnome bugzilla site on the flathub
GnuCash page which links to the now becoming defunct Gnome Bugzilla which is
being transferred to Gnome Gitlab and has a link to it,
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME . I could not find any reporting of issues
with flathub or GnuCash on it .

While searching for it I also found
https://github.com/flathub/org.gnucash.GnuCash where one can report issues
as well. That doesn't appear to be maintained by any of the regular GnuCash
developers.

Hope that helps getting the MYSQL going with the flathub build.

David

Thanks for the suggestion, but 3.2 built from source works fine on the same
machine.

I'm guessing the database driver is missing: libdbd-mysql

Not sure if it would help installing this within the host operating system. Not
entirely sure how that flatpak stuff works. But I suspect you might have to
somehow inject it into the flatpack container.

Some information to throw into the mix. I tried installing the 3.2 Flatpack
version on an Ubuntu Mate laptop, which had previously run a 2.6 gnucash before
having the OS reinstalled (but the home directory was untouched). Everything
seems to work, but it threw out these messages. This may or may not be useful
info.

flatpak run org.gnucash.GnuCash
ldconfig: /app/lib/libguile-2.2.so.1.3.0-gdb.scm is not an ELF file - it has
the wrong magic bytes at the start.
Gtk-Message: 19:16:03.164: Failed to load module "appmenu-gtk-module"

Notice
Your gnucash metadata has been migrated .
Old location: /home/slave/.gnucash
New location: /home/slave/.var/app/org.gnucash.GnuCash/data/gnucash
If you no longer intend to run GnuCash 2.6.x or older on this system you can
safely remove the old directory.

Gtk-Message: 19:16:25.573: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is
discouraged.

Re: [GNC] Flatpack GnuCash v3.2 available in Linux Mint and flathub website

2018-07-10 Thread Colin Law
It would be really good if the flatpak worked, but for me (on Ubuntu 18.04)
I cannot save as mysql or open an existing mysql database (though it has
the mysql option). I can't find the gnucash.trace file when running as a
flatpak (I have searched the whole disc).

Any idea where to submit bugs against the flatpak version?

In fact I would prefer a snap [1], as snaps are better integrated into
Ubuntu, but it is not 3.2 yet. I have reached out to the maintainer of
that to ask if he intends to update it but not had a reply.

Re: [GNC] Flatpack GnuCash v3.2 available in Linux Mint and flathub website

2018-07-07 Thread Les
Thanks for posting the Flatpack information.  I have a test machine
running Linux Mint 19 on an older Dell laptop.  I went to the Flatpack
site and installed GC 3.2.  The install went without a hitch.  I
transferred my latest GC file on my production machine running GC 2.6.21
and Linux Mint 18.2, to that machine and opened the file.  Everything
looked great except:

there are no totals for Assets, Current Assets, Investments and several
other accounts.  Also there was a $4.70 difference in Profits.  I
haven't taken the time to track that down as yet.

I really like the ease of installation that Flatpack provides.

Thanks,

Les

The flatpack runs as /usr/bin/flatpack --b. Not sure how that handles other

The flathub version may be a good option for Linux users not interestedin
building from scratch but wanting the latest stable version. It seems to
distribute up to date Linux packages independent of the distribution
packagers, which some recent posters have been seeking.

Gnucash V3.2 is available in the Software Manager in Linux Mint 18.3
