RE: [IMail Forum] Duplicates
Julie, I am sorry for the serious delay of about... o 5 days or so !! I have not been in my office till this morning. TOOLS EMAIL ACCOUNTS (services in office 2000) select the e-mail account in question Properties More Settings Advanced In this area of the E-mail settings you will see 4 tabs on the top, one is the Advanced tab. Inside here you will see your ports for POP3 or SMTP etc... At the bottom there is an option to Leave a copy of messages on the server ( followed up by ) Remove from server after XX days Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items If the client wants to leave messages on the server, hey no problem at all... let them, but make sure you have them UNCHECK the Remove from server when deleted from deleted items That has cleared up all my worries about this issue with some serious e-mail hogs! -rob Regards, Rob - - - - - - - - - - Rob Szkutak Sr. Network Engineer Accram Inc. 602-264-0288 x137 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Julie Harris Sent: Sunday, February 20, 2005 8:00 AM To: IMail_Forum@list.ipswitch.com Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Duplicates Rob, I rarely have time to follow this forum the way I would like. RE: [IMail Forum] ISP's blocking port 25 except to their own mail servers
Yes, most ISPs such as SBC / Qwest / Cox / Roadrunner etc block port 25 with the exception of their own mail server. As one person mentioned you can put a rule in your firewall to allow higher ports to forward requests on that port over to 2525. However in IMAIL there is no way to configure multiple ports for POP / SMTP. I went through this some time ago, but never did any rules or anything as we are starting our phase out of IMAIL and moving over to another system which allows this type of implementation. Personally I use a UNIX server for my own e-mail, and have ports for SMTP configured on 25 as well as port 2525. The ISPs; SBC/Yahoo Ameritech; are blocking port 25. I looked in the list archive and it appears that iMail can only listen on a single port, is this true? I dont want to force everyone to change to accommodate a few users. Its easier to have them use their ISP for outgoing mail. Scott W. RE: [IMail Forum] Imap Frequently Disconnects
First I would ensure that they are PURGING their e-mail on at the least a weekly basis. If they are using outlook or outlook express they need to purge their e-mail to REALLY DELETE files. In IMAP if you delete the file it's not really gone until you tell the system to PURGE DELETED ITEMS. You can have the customer find this : EDIT PURGE DELETED ITEMS That would be a good start there !!! I have had customers have this issue with my unix server, and low and behold it ended up being a problem with too much mail in the server, and never expunging it. Remote users (the farther away the worse the problem) are having their connection to the sent box disconnect after a few minutes of inactivity (so they get errors when their client saves a copy of their message), and the only way they seem to fix it is to look in the sent box before sending a message. Just having them save their sent messages to a local folder doesn't work for all clients either, as file copies need to be stored on the server. [IMail Forum] Switching Away from IMAIL - results so far ?
Hey all, I know for some time here people were talking about moving away from IMAIL and posting new e-mail systems they were looking at / considering. How is everyone doing and what have you decided to go with, or are currently testing in the lab environment Like (hopefully) most all of you, we are avidly looking for another solution as we are going to jump this sinking IPSwitch nightmare cluster. Suggestions? Thanks ! Regards, Rob - - - - - - - - - - Rob Szkutak Sr. Network Engineer Accram Inc. 602-264-0288 x137
[IMail Forum] One domain not getting mail ???
Hey guys, I have a customers of ours who has been reporting some really odd problems with e-mail and I am stumped now. Domain name: champagnelogistics.com The are having trouble receiving mail from their outside sources, which they get a large volume of with daily, and apparently this all started last week on Friday, but we were made aware of it yesterday afternoon. They were also having problems sending mail to themselves at times, so I suspected a spam list. I added them to a white list, and that worked out no problem so they can e-mail themselves now, which only a couple users were having problems with. They are sending off the server they are popping mail from, so it's not a matter of relay I don't think. I looked at the typical spam lists, but they were not listed as a spammer... Does anyone have any thoughts on this one Stumped ! -rob --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus] To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
RE: [IMail Forum] Imail running away with processor... whats up ?
Hey guys, Thanks for all the quick responses... So here goes my best shot at answering all the questions in one whack. System config: Typical Single processor server, P4 3Ghz, 1.5 Gb Ram, SCSI-360 hard drives, Mirror. Windows 2000 Server SP4 As for services, it appears that all services are running except for those which we have shut down... ( Whois32, Fingerd32, Open LDAP-Slaped, and Iwebcal ) So pretty much it is a base line, base model mail server. Actaully it was a good thing that I sent this last night, because as I type this, the e-mail server is starting to throw up, and cry like a little baby, so I am somewhat ontop of it. I noticed that Declude is running around 20-50% of CPU during peaks, but generally it is steady at 5% or so when it is being used. POPD32, and SMTPd32 both sit around 3-5% when they are running as an active process... but I see Declude sucking up processor the most. I notices some of you mentioned declude 16 bit, 32 bit... how do I know which one I am using ? My declude looks like one of those old applications that is 16 bit from the ICON ( 16 bit DOS type look ), but frankly not sure. You mentioned LDAP. I had a problem where my LDAP DB was corrupt and every time the server started, LDAP would try to start and the CPU would run away screaming. Just a thought. Logs should tell everything...although kind of cryptic at times, post to the list (only small sniplets :-) ) and someone can help decipher. Other good advice so far: Make sure the fragmentation level is kept under control. anything else running that could be falling over first - backup software perhaps? what does the spool look like and what are your relay settings? Are you sure it is a CPU issue? If so, go to Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, then the CPU button -- you'll see the culprit(s) at the top of the list. ...which means that if you're using F-Prot.exe as a virus scanner (with Declude Virus or another product), you should switch to the 32-bit fpcmd.exe. Initally I just kinda brushed it off, but now I am starting to see it as well, Simply sending a text only e-mail can sometimes take 30 seconds... and I am on a t-1 frame to our mail server, so I know a 20k e-mail can fly on that type of pipe. The only resolution for this is to reboot the mail server, which once I do this it runs perfectly fine for another couple days, then walla back to square 1. We did have an issue where I was working on implementing LDAP, but didn't get around to it and LDAP went WILD, so I shut it off and jumped ship there. RE: [IMail Forum] Imail running away with processor... whats up ?
We used to use Fprot with this system, but we didn't use it anylonger ( so I was told ) and we removed it from the system about 2 weeks ago... So it is just declude on it's own... As I am here looking, declude is always right under the system idle process, or at times above it it appears that declude is causing the issues here ! -r Happy Surfing, Rob Szkutak Sr. Network Enginner (602) 264.0288 x137 Accram Inc. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of R. That's OK if you have the resources for it, which you appear to -- if during the busiest times you're not at 100% CPU usage, you're good (some people have the CPU at about 100% most of the time during peak hours). I notices some of you mentioned declude 16 bit, 32 bit... how do I know which one I am using ? All versions of Declude are 32-bit. If you use F-Prot with Declude Virus, though, it has a 16-bit version. If you are using F-Prot.exe (in the SCANFILE line in your virus.cfg file), you should switch it to fpcmd.exe (and remove the /NOFLOPPY option at the same time, which the 32-bit version of F-Prot chokes on). -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers since 2000.
