Re: [LincolnTalk] Why are people in Weston still irrigating their lawns?

2022-08-01 Thread Debra Daugherty
It seems to me that a natural counterpart to having a water ban would be to
use water usage rates to control the amount of water people are using. Yes,
I know about the tiers. But those rates are set for non-drought
circumstances. Why not temporarily alter the rates in response to the
drought? I fully support regulations, but regulations require people to
enforce them, and so they have limitations (but are still important!).
Usage rates go straight to the point.

There's a lot to say on this subject, but I will stop here in the interest
of keeping this short and hearing what others think ...

2022-07-31 Thread Joan Kimball
Thanks, Sara. I agree. Its very important for us in Lincoln to take care
of our water supply.

Water will be increasingly precious with climate change, and we all have a
role to play in conserving water in times of draught for both people and
wildlife. Grass will come back after browning off. Watering grass does
not replenish the water table. Lots of studies on this.

But Lincoln has always been under the “ watchful “ eye/ in the crosshairs of
DEP for our draw down. We were, at one time, under a consent decree.
Perhaps we still are.

We need to be ever- vigilant and understand that to maintain our independence
from MWRA we need to strictly limit our consumption in times like these. Those
of us with no sprinkler / irrigation systems implore those with to act
responsibly and turn them off!

[LincolnTalk] Why are people in Weston still irrigating their lawns?

2022-07-31 Thread RAandBOB
Many of our neighboring towns use water from the Quabbin Reservoir via the
MWRA. The towns that I know of off the top of my head are Weston, Lexington,
Framingham, and I think Waltham but I’m not sure. That section of the state is
not in drought and the Quabbin Reservoir can provide quite a bit more water
than is currently being used. So people who draw their water from the MWRA are
not yet being asked to conserve water.
