Hi Mike, The FA DOES NOT matrix meter with AI lenses. It would only matrix meter with AIS lenses. The FA can only centre weight meter AI and non AI lenses. These limitations are stated in the FA user manual. I don't know why Nikon did this, and no one so far can explain it to me. There is a small button on the FA to change from matrix metering to centre weighted metering, but I often found it to make no difference at all. Happy shooting, Sover
