I did a complete removal (and deleted lingering directories (moving the one in my home over). Ok... I don't have that classics, but that's not the problem. An attempted fresh re-install came to the same problem. Well, I think you kind of null-ified any chance of reproducing the same bug you encountered and reported initially. I asked for the classic.xml file *you* modified. That was the file I was interested in. Getting the original file was as simple as reinstalling the wormux-data package. You say that after install you found the same problem. Do you mean that you *purged* *both* wormux and womux-data and *still* got a segfault? I was trying to install it via source from their site (after another fresh complete removal (+directories) ) and came across an odd problem: It can't find libcurl or libxml++, despite me adjusting the individual Yes, because they are versioned in Debian. But still I don't think is relevant for Debian you reproducing that bug with the original source, since the Debian source contains some fixes which the original source does not. Please, if you still have your modified classic.xml file, send that to the BTS. After that, purge and reinstall both wormux and wormux-data and see if your bug is still present. P.S.: If you really want to compile from upstream's source, which I *don't*recommend*, try to apt-get build-dep wormux (as root) and then to compile the source. Hmm, well, the creative commons is a suite of licenses, not a single license. Also, they have passed through several reviews and the most recent version of the licenses is version 3.0 (by chance, this is also the first version that includes at least one license considered as free by the Debian Project). I prefer you use the models for demos or freeware projects. I am not sure what you mean by „freeware projects”[1] A license as the GNU GPL, 2 or 3 clause BSD-like license, MIT, or CC-BY 3.0 /CC-BY-SA 3.0 are considered free according to those points. So the question is: which rights you want be available with your work? I strongly suggest either CC-BY or CC-BY-SA in order to allow the work to be included in the collection of free (as in freedom) software/works included in Debian and also other distributions. Note that having a restriction on non-commercial use qualifies the work as non-free since that would mean also: - not being to create a compilation that contains the game and sell that compilation - not being able to create a commercial product (be it a game or some other work) based on that (art)work - not being able to use the game in a commercial environment (like a gaming room, a commercially sponsored game tour that uses the game for the contest) You might find it easier to choose your license by using the license selector the CC site offers at this address (then reply with the address of the resulted page): http://creativecommons.org/license/ Regards and sorry for my bad english :-S No problem, we all have that same problem ;-) Thanks for the reply and all the help! Recently I finished packaging it and I proceeded to upload it into the official Debian archive. The upload was rejected because the license of the glest-data package only allows redistribution, but without allowing the same things that the glest license (GPL) allows. This means that, although the game (engine) itself would allow it, the whole game can't be a part of an official Debian release because the depended upon data does not allow the same rights as the code license (modification, redistribution of modified versions, not being entangled to one jurisdiction or one person, etc...). What a shame! Since having this game in Debian proper would be a really nice, I wanted to ask you if you would like to change the license for the data package to allow redistribution under a license that would offer the same/equivalent terms as the code of the game. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 (cc-ing list since I don't know if you are subscribed) Josef Spillner wrote: I wonder what could be done regarding the issue of different release cycles of game (server) projects and Debian, including its derivates. If a game project releases versions X, Y and Z, and is only to host Z on its server, what will distros A and B do if they included X and Y and promise many years of support for it. Obviously, depending on specific server versions is a bad idea, but this seems to be increasingly common. For example, there are many packages which have something to do with Google, and if Google changes its remote APIs then the packages will break. They already ceased to offer their SOAP service, and as a result, packages such as libnet-google-perl are basically worthless, unless someone writes a replacement service for it. (Hm, I should file a bug report against it...) I wonder what can be done about this for games which depend on specific game servers. For example, would there be an issue to let new game clients go into proposed-updates for a stable Debian release if that happens? The package dependency management of dpkg is currently entirely unaware of such dependencies, but I think at some point one wants to keep track of this. Suggestions? AFAICT, this is currently covered either by backports or unofficial packages (either client or server). Another alternative would be placing such packages under the volatile section, but I doubt it would be accepted by release managers since new server versions. Another idea would be to have something like games.debian.net as a server for the games delivered in Debian stable. There have been some discussions around this topic, but there are things like bandwidth which are a concern. Yet another idea is (as a user) to pin packages from testing or try to install via source the game from testing (by means or srcinst which is able to install packages from source). I know, neither of these is a good solution, although the games.debian.net would be the most smart one, IMHO, but the most expensive, too. - -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFwH6+Y8Chqv3NRNoRAqcAAJ44PohMVdkmSD/GBsJ6qq0Mv9bXewCghpX6 +kz/okPuSdmHNkyn6ePjFMg= =cI+S -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel

And I mean skins (the worms are identical, AFAICT), not the whole graphics I am not sure about graphics (they do NOT look like what I have seen in the Worms games, but I have not seen many), but the sound effects are clearly stolen... Just look for Team17 Software Ltd. in the WAV's. Too bad. Looks like a fun game. Hmm, maybe that free content database might help us WRT sounds. I have looked at the short clips and the sounds are very similar to the ones I heard in Quake3 or maybe Unreal Tournament. I wouldn't want to cripple the game, but I was wondering if nosound would be an option to start with and we could focus on the graphics for the moment. - -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFgbmdY8Chqv3NRNoRAio2AKCmST7+MDmmPnir2j/7hgIFG7U3qQCeJhKB KfxDPvDP8x5T5OotiobE/II= =c53A -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ Pkg-games-devel mailing list Pkg-games-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-games-devel
Bug#400333: wormux - FTBFS: Build-depends on unavailable package libsdl-ttf1.2-dev

This is a known, long-standing behavior, and is fairly desirable in this case anyway because we don't want a package uploaded to unstable that's built against an obsolete libsdl-ttf1.2-dev package. With this upload we'll have builds for all arches done against 2.0-dev At minimum, please reverse the order of these or'ed build-dependencies; at best, please drop libsdl-ttf1.2-dev from the list, since it's obsolete. ... since I implemented the best solution. Bug#395992: new upstream release
Daniel Baumann wrote: Eddy Petris,or wrote: The code is not stable enough to enter Etch, thus we will not upload a new version of wormux. it's reasonable to upload it then not to sid, yes. That's why it was prepared for experimental ;-) We do, in spite of that fact, an experimental package in our SVN and our autobuilder should build a package from our SVN repo. please don't do 'unofficial' packages. experimental is a very nice test-bed excately for that purpose. We have an autobuilder which helps us see which packages are broken in our SVN trunk. Is as unofficial as the packages you build on your system before uploads ;-). Currently I would like to make some more (experimental) changes to the wormux package (not even committed in SVN :-) then request for an upload. if sponsoring is the issue, just tell me and I'll sponsor it. I will shout and give complete details when I have a prepared package. but I want to incorporate the patch for #395217 since an upload will be done. The package is ready for upload and can be found at http://pkg-games.alioth.debian.org/upload/wormux/ The urgency has been set to medium as it fixes 2 RC bugs, although I am not sure if this shouldn't have been high.
